Icon23 [Trade] Cogliano to Carolina

To Carolina:
Andrew Cogliano

To Philly:
Brandon Sutter
$3.00m worth of smoked Gouda

We weren't looking at trading Cogliano and actually like him quite a bit. We even had 2 GMs ask about him this summer alone. We thought our lines were pretty set, aside from some AHL spots needing to be filled.

Then came Doug and his unorthodox approach. He didn't send a message and instead shot over his proposal right through the trade board. It required a small tweak, but was fair enough and the novelty just made me want to say yes.

For the short term, it's a 1ov point increase on Cog and allows us to throw Sutter on the 3rd line wing and let Rieder take Cogliano's spot on the bottom line. Or we may trade Couturier, let Sutter take 3rd C and get a different winger back. Too early to say.

For the long term, Sutter is 2 years younger and on what we think will be a cheaper contract than what Cogliano will command on a grid next summer.
We like it all around.
Cogliano is awesome in Anaheim. That shouldn't change.
We just hope Sutter can have a better year with a crap Canucks team.

Big ups to Doug for an easy trade.

Its an end of an era as the Carolina Hurricanes do not employ a Sutter on its team

Quietly but surely the 'Canes have been changing the guard and the final trade of moving Brandon Sutter cemented the team's commitment towards a new look Hurricanes come opening night.

John Tavares and Sam Reinhart are the only forwards that have survived the revolving door.

Sutter still has the qualities that the 'Canes need and with his exit exposes an even greater hole but the simple truth was, till we cut ties to the past this team wasn't going to progress. The team needs to improve and doing the same thing year after year wasn't working.

Huge thanks to the Duke for getting this done
