Default Wearing Ex-player jerseys to home games

Hey everyone,

Coming from the West Coast to finally catch a Flames game at the Saddledome in November. What are your thoughts on fans wearing ex-player jerseys to games? I've got an Iginla jersey from 2004 playoffs with SCF patch, and a mid-90's Fleury jersey. Thinking of wearing one of these.

I've gotta look into getting a new one. Monahan maybe?

It's 100% fine, no matter the player.

Anyone who says otherwise overthinks what it means to be a fan in attendance at a hockey game.

Wear one of them, if we win keep wearing it till we lose, then switch. Wear that one till we loose, then buy a new jersey. Wear that one till we lose, then start the rotation again and repeat.

It's okay as long as that specific player was not a colossal disappointment as a Flame.

Absolutely. My current favorite Jersey is a Huselius. I swap in Glencross, Kipper, Cammi and a Jokinen for fun every now and again. I have about 10-20 more that don't get worn as much. But if the team needs some extra luck, I bring out the Fleury Pedestal, Gelinas with the SC patch, Nieuwendyk Classic or Iggy that was bought during the 04 cup Run.

I wear a Hudler jersey. Never seen another one at the dome. Will continue to wear it - even just for the novelty value.

Friend has one of these signed! And it's up there with the Baertschi.

Also, think it is cross thread compatible with the Darryl Sutter GM or a hat thread, so there is some cred there.

Honestly old jersey's, unique jersey's and fans wearing them are a great thing to see at the Dome.

I have a Baertschi. An Authentic Baertschi. Ugh. So yeah don't go buy a new jersey for a young up and coming star who is about to get traded.

Like Gaudreau. I heard he's as good as gone. Buy a Monahan instead.

I wear my Bertuzzi jersey from time to time, though it's a little small for me now. I might frame it.

Oh, and I guess David Jones is a former Flame too, now...

I have a Kiprusoff and a vintage McDonald and a few blanks.

Blanks are good too. You can be a supporter of the team in general without fealty to a specific player.

Wear whatever you want, as long as it's a jersey design the player in question actually wore

Example: White retro 89' Cup Finals patch Iginla = Bad

My Phaneuf jersey? Bad.

Do (or don't) wear crested jerseys to Flames home games.

The only time I think it is silly to wear a jersey to a game is when the team isn't playing in that game or sport. It isn't wrong, just silly.

This. I'm a fully-fledged jersey snob, the exact kind of person you're worried about. And even I think that's absolutely fine. Yeah as long as that player in question didn't leave a sour taste in the mouths of the fan base, you're good to go.

Actually if it's not a recent departure, and it's been long enough that nostalgia has set in with that player, I'd argue an old name like that is even better than a current Flame.
