I've always wondered why no professional sports team uses the Rhino as their mascot. That'd be an awesome jersey. And think of the goalie masks.

Nighthawks is actually a really good name.
The other two not so much, and tread far too closely to the Blackhawks.
Then again, if MLB can have the White Sox, the Red Sox and the Reds...

They should have gone with Las Vegas Mike Hawks.

#### this.

I agree that using "Hawks" is kinda lame...
Still liked the CFL version though...especially because every time Ottawa leaves and then comes back, all the GORIDERS fans in Sask go crazy when you tell them that you heard Ottawa was going to bring back the "Rough Riders" team name...

Yeah but baseball's goofy that way. They have three teams named after birds you see in your backyard and two named after the world's ####tiest birthday present

Ok but what other option did they have?
Are there a ton of cool team names not in use that people are clamoring for? There are literally hundreds of team names in NA sport that have been used already.
Considering it needs to be marketable to children and adults, need to be somewhat aggressive, have some sort of association to the region, has to be easily represented in visual form etc they are kind of limited.

Nevada Nighthawks sounds good.
Teams in the SW seem to like using state prefixes (Arizona Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche, California Golden Seals, etc.).

I think the Las Vegas Roughriders sounds pretty good.
There is actually a connection between Roughriders and Las Vegas too, but it is military so they probably run into the same problem as they did with Black Knights.

That team name is reserved for the expected NHL expansion to Nova Scotia. Its rumored that Jim Lahey of Sunnyvale Trailer Park is penned as the future GM.

I was hoping for the Las Vegas Scorponoks! It's regional-specific and could have the coolest logo ever.

How about the "Las Vegas Wayne Newtons"?
-Marketable to Children and Adults (check).
-Somewhat aggressive (probably-check).
-Association to the region (check).
-Easily represented in visual form (check).
To be serious though, I agree with you--lots of overlap in sports with respect to team nicknames. Still, if "NightHawks" or something similar goes through, you've got to think that Chicago would have been given some prior notice/voice on it. I'm not arguing that they SHOULD have this input, but, given their history in the league, it would be kind of a courtesy.

I do as well. And think how much that'd chap the asses of Riderville. That alone makes it worth it.

I agree with using Nevada instead of Las Vegas if they're concerned about the gambling connotation it brings. Nevada seems easier to work with than Las Vegas.

"Redhawks" is the sports team name for Western Canada High School, IIRC. If Las Vegas chooses that, they should sue.

There is also a historical connotation, as 19th century baseball teams often didn't really have formal nicknames and/or were occasionally referred to by uniform colours. Which explains all three of those teams (Cincinnati Red Stockings).

Wranglers is/was a better name than any of those given that there is already one 'Hawks in the league. Disappointing.
