According to a report from the world guru on logos and team names, Chris Creamer of Sportslogos.net, the Las Vegas NHL team will be named Nighthawks, Desert Hawks, or Red Hawks.
There are three names the team appears to be moving forward with: the Desert Hawks, the Red Hawks, and the Nighthawks. These names were all registered as several different domain names by Black Knight IP Holding Company, LLC, the company owned by Las Vegas hockey owner Bill Foley within the last few weeks. -Chris Creamer

I thought the talk was it was going to be Knights? I don't like these three new ones.
It won't be the Knights because of trademark issues.
Specifically the London Knights trademark in Canada would prevent the name from being used and Foley said that it wasn't economical to obtain the rights (in other words the London Knights wanted a sh*t ton of money for it)

Why not just do something like this?

Yet it's cheaper to knock off the Chicago Blackhawks.

It was Black Knights (because of the Army connection) but I think that Army had an issue with that. Dunno why they couldn't just go "Knights" - I liked the double meaning. Maybe they didn't.
