Gillies is close
Quote:
Huska said starting goaltender Jon Gillies is still day-to-day, but there’s a much better chance that he will see action this weekend.
Gillies missed both games last week with a jammed right thumb.
“There’s a chance he could be in (today), that’s something that we’ve been throwing around,” Huska said. “He’s practiced full the last two days. He’s as close as close can be.”

Pribyl makes it 2-0 with assists to Lomberg & Andersson.
2-0 the final score, Rittich gets his second shutout with 30 saves.

Rittich with the shutout; 3-0 in his last three starts, including two shutout, and just 1 goal against in the other

Rittich now matches the franchise record for total shutouts. He has played 5 games.
As per Brandon Kisker
Brandon Kisker @kiskerbc 2h2 hours ago
Rittich joins Gillies and Poulin for most shutouts in team history. Joins Ortio and Poulin as only goalies to win 3 in a row.

Since that stretch where the Heat were imploding in the 3rd, choking up leads and gave up 17 goals in 3 games, the Heat have seemed to buckle down defensively. They have given up just 10 goals in 6 games, 4 were in a single game. This also coincided with letting Roback walk and bringing in Aulie, although that could just be a coincidence.

Thanks for shutout chart AB. Seems premature for team to be touting team records with only one full year of operation. I expect a lot of team records this year.
Liked seeing Shantz on the chart. He was the goalie when Fleury scored the shootout winner IIRC. Fleury (and fans) would never have experienced that moment if Shantz had not shut the door.

Heat continue to look good this season. Which is nice because I only have the critical capacity to be angry at one of our coaching staffs at a time. Huska making good this year (for a change) even after losing 4 top guys (Gillies, Vey, Shinkaruk, Hathaway). That's when an AHL coach really gets to show his mettle. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come for Huska.

I'm very impressed that the Heat have done so well with so many new bodies this season.
4th best point percentage in the AHL (2nd in their division)
Best Goals Against in the AHL while still putting up a lot of offense
A deep playoff run would do wonders for their development so let's hope this continues.

Exactly. An abysmal Flames season isn't something young prospects develop well in, whereas a Calder Cup run might be something that could really benefit the training camp next season

Heat have recalled Kanzig from Adirondack.
Looks like he was loaned to Adirondack because they were on a western road trip and could be easily recalled if/when they needed him.
Adirondack is going back to the east coast, so now he is Stockton's #7 d-man... at least until Culkin is back from injury.

For those who watch all the games, how has Mangiapane looked? Hes got 10pts in 11gp, he was a top 5 scorer in the OHL for two years straight, and always been highly spoke of from management. Has he been a driver, or a passenger? Is he too undersized? Does he deserve a call -up more than others?

He has mostly played on a line with Frattin and Vey when I have caught the games, and I would say he has driven excellent offense with his relentless and intelligent forecheck, but I wouldn't call him a true "driver" yet in the sense of singlehandedly making his mark. The Frattin/Mangiapane has been very good though. I think with time Mangiapane will be an NHLer, and a good one. I like his game more than the more polished Klimchuk, Shinkaruk, or Poirier.
IMO, long term he is not undersized, but right now he needs to get stronger and faster and harder on the puck. This is a natural stage of development for 20 year olds though.

Not yet, but I have no doubt he eventually will. Right now I would say Klimchuk and Jankowski are more deserving, and Pribyl is more enticing package with his ability to drive the net hard. But I don't see a lot of upside in Klimchuk as IMO he's usually not in deadly areas while Mangiapane gets right in the heart of it. It's more a matter of Klimchuk being a year ahead developmentally.

Kylington draws a penalty and Stockton scores right at the start of the PP. Sounds like Poirier from Klimchuk and Wotherspoon. Kisker thinks it was Bollig's goal though. 1-0 good guys
now 1-1

Pribyl unreal along the boards. Shades of Jagr/Thornton.
2-1 Reign. Rittich didn't have much chance, it was deflected.
