Comments like these are, at the most generous interpretation, sort of accidentally ignorant sounding and flippant. At the worst interpretation, they're Nazi apologists. No one is defending nazism. Pretty safe to say we are all on board with it being a repulsive ideology. This isn't like Vancouver losing a hockey game either, this is some real hateful shiz, ugly and sadly... probably just the start. Quebec City just its first taste of this brand of political discourse, outcome predictable.

Just to add to the frustration of this topic, simplistic platitudes are not exactly what we need more of. For those of us who live in the middle of the gong show, ridiculous comments like this are frustrating as they make light of the situation. We are talking about people with weapons who want to kill those who disagree with them! Turning the other cheek just means you get both sides of your face caved in by these types. Quotes from MLK Jr. sound nice and all, but don't mean a hill of beans, because that particular belief has done nothing to improve the state of relations between the races.

These White Nationalists have been around for decades and are trying to make a big comeback. They are like roaches, and you have to treat them as such. The vast majority of Americans need to stand firm and help bring an end to these movements. Because they are violent, and looking to express their dissatisfaction with our society through violence, we must be prepared to counter those behaviors as needed. Handing them a flower isn't going to get it done.

A little context: Every cop in Phoenix is on alert today, not because there's going to be a huge love-in when BLOTUS arrives, but because they are expecting vitriol and action from the rally. Protesters have been on site since 6 AM. This is a powder keg and is considered extremely serious. Arizona bikers promising to "provide security" for those on the Trump side. The Arizona Militia, American Border Patrol, Soldiers of Odin, Vinlanders Social Club, and American Vanguard are all supposed to join in with the III% and Oath Keepers to keep things honest. And Arizona is an open carry state, so there will be plenty of weapons on site. This has potential to be a mess.
