So ya, ignoring experts again. The en####ification of Alberta continues.
Yeah my wife and I were going through the latest and greatest version of the social studies curiculum over the weekend. I am so glad my youngest kid is just barely old enough to miss this. In addition to the issues mentioned in the article there is still zero thought put into what is age appropriate or having the right baseline knowledge first, e.g. 7 year old kids who barely know their school has a principal overseeing the students learning about how different levels of government interact and relate or the significance of bills passed in England 400 years ago. Also still a lot of US focus.

Yep. Still all about memorizing facts and cramming in as much as possible even if it's not developmentally appropriate - hoooray. And very white. Talk about colonization and how it was great for European people without talking about how it was not exactly the best for Indigenous peoples. Neatooo.

But at least we cut Jason Kenney's grandpa, that's a start.

And I question how this is a long term plan at all. If we need care spaces, we need them. So why not build them, and staff them? it's not like we won't need them in the future. This is what privatization of healthcare looks like. The lowest cost bidder with no oversight finds the cheapest hotel and loads it with patients with minimal, inappropriate levels of care and sends them fast food while the patient festers in filth. Then they profit.

And I'm not just morally opposed to this government, I'm opposed to them on an intellectual level more than anything. That they ignore experts and do whatever they think feels right has to be amoung the dumbest ways to run a government, and a sure way to fail. That anyone could defend that, let alone vote for it, is mind boggling. It is endorsing stupidity.
I object to the use of a Travellodge, they could have booked the patients on to a cruise ship with medical staff already in place.
Then there is the added benefit of a burial at sea.

The article isn't coming up for me, I think it was from the herald. It outlined the group of educators that the government hired to research and give recommendations for the new SS curriculum, and hiw they were completely ignored, after years of work. The article was basically making sure that everyone knew that they were renouncing their involvement, so the UCP couldn't brag about expert involvement in the process.

Imagine, just imagine, that your parent has a stroke. The doctors keep them in the hospital to stabilize and make sure there are no emergent issues, and start a new medication regime of blood thinners, cholesterol medication, and others to prevent future strokes. You're learning that mobility is going to be an issue now because they cannot control one side of their body well, or maybe at all. They're going to be taken into care because they can't care for themselves anymore, so they will not be going home. You're told that ongoing physiotherapy will be required to try and learn how to physically cope with the reduced mobility and functionality to do basic daily care. There are likely to be apparent cognitive and mental health issues that will need to be assessed and dealt with. It's difficult, but you live in the wealthiest province in one of the wealthiest countries in the world, and health care is a public good, so it will not bankrupt your family. You're thankful for that.

You go to see your parent and they're in a travel lodge with no supports and fast food wrappers on the table. The room is not wheelchair accessible, so someone will have help this patient get around, even within the room. There's crap on the walls and care has not been there for a while.

Thankfully, there's a study from europe on patient hospitals that makes it all better. Phew

Yeah, there was some info posted on this a couple of weeks ago, maybe on Reddit. Was wondering when it would hit mainstream media.

Bratt says the petition is unlikely to get the necessary signatures to be successful, but at this point, that's likely not the point.

Sounds like the chaos is getting started.

Quote:
Health-care staff are now being shifted from Alberta Health Services to the provincial health department as the province forges ahead with its controversial and sweeping restructuring plans.

The Alberta government announced its intention late last year to hive off health-care provision into four key organizations, and reduce AHS to the role of a hospital care provider.

So far, 126 AHS staff have been terminated but have been presented with "equivalent" job offers within Alberta Health, according to the province.
Quote:
"What we have been seeing is memos sent to front-line workers telling them that they have a couple of weeks to make a decision whether or not to stay with the government or take the layoff and recall. And so not very much … consultation is actually happening."
Quote:
"People were concerned that their contracts were terminated and that the contract they were being offered was not as competitive as the contract that they had with Alberta Health Services," said Manns, a kidney specialist and professor of health economics in the department of medicine at the University of Calgary.

"These are the poorly thought through consequences that are going to happen if you move from one organization to another."
Quote:
"When you don't know if you're going to show up at work and you you're told in a month or so you're going to be somewhere else with a completely different pay scale, with a different contract or whatever, it just doesn't make it worth your while," she said.

"Why would they stay working for an employer that basically doesn't value the work that they do?"

This is going to be an absolute ####ing disaster. Hope y'all don't actually need healthcare anytime soon. Except for all you dumb ####s who voted UCP, maybe you can get ill and wallow in the fetid sewer you helped create.

Do we get to pick which hotel we get to recover in? Cause I want one that has a breakfast bar with a waffle machine, not one of the pancake conveyors.

You get a plain Tim Horton's doughnut and a coffee, and don't be bitching it isn't a double-double.

When UCP voters don't end up getting the top-notch care they expect when they inevitably need to go get medical care, and get mad and confused and surprised about the state of Alberta's health care system, that egg is 100% on their face and nobody else's.

Then, they'll start screaming for US-style private health care... which was the plan all along.
