Default Hurricanes sign Brett Pesce (6 yrs, $4.025 mil AAV)

Pesce shows promise, and this contract is definitely reflective of that. These type of deals aren't about what he did last year, it's about what they project Pesce will do going forward.

Seems like he has potential to be a solid, stay at home d-man. Bit of a risk for the Canes, but could look like a good deal in another year or two.

Wow that's a big contract for a guy with very little experience. Admittedly I've not watched any Hurricanes games the last two years, but just looking at stats.

Yeesh that would be a heck of a commitment for a guy that doesn't really even have a set role on the Flames at this point.

This guy is just about everything you want from a modern day shut down Dman.

Good size, good mobility, can move the puck and can log minutes.

The Canes have about as good of a young top 4 D group as there is in the NHL.

Slavin (23) - Faulk (25)
Hanifin (20) - Pesce (22)

Should be a solid group for a long time.

Didn't forget him, he just isn't an established NHLer yet, where as the 4 I listed are all already playing top 4 or top pairing NHL minutes and excelling.

If Fleury pans out as well, then the Canes start to look like "Ducks West" in their ability to draft and develop their own D core and have it be one of the best in the league.

What's with these relatively unknown "youts" getting these massive contracts?

Did you say "youths"? Yeah, "youts", that what I said..

Sounds like quebec is going to have a better team than Seattle coyotes right out of the gate.

The only reason they are unknown to you is because CAR plays out east and doesn't get a lot of coverage. Just like a lot of people said who when Brodie got his 4+ million deal who don't follow the Flames closely. Or the people who said who when Josi got his deal in NSH.

Slavin and Pesce would be pretty well known by our fans if CAR was in our division.

Fleury has struggled in the past few years. That said, he still projects to be an NHLer and I could see him and Roland Mckeown being their 3rd pairing behind Faulk, Slavin, Hanifin and Pesce.
