Trade Saad for a nice return
Sign Panarin for free because reasons
Get a couple of point per game ELC years out of Panarin
Trade Panarin for Saad

Must be nice to be able to attract marquee UFA's like Panarin.

I think Torts and Saad had issues. Wonder how Panarin will get along with him

I think that is a fairly small risk. I won't be surprised to see Panarin's numbers take a bit of a hit this season, but watching him the last two years there was no question that he is an extremely skilled puck distributer all on his own.

It's tough to rely on multiple tiny, skilled forwards. Makes you easy to shove around and shut down in the tighter checking playoffs. It's why I've always been insistent we needed to surround Gaudreau with some big powerforwards and not another small skilled guy

My sources say that Joe Quenneville just left a meeting at a hotel and immediately got in a cab and left. WHAT IS GOING DOWN IN CHITOWN!?

I'd imagine part of the reasoning has to do with cap issues?

Weren't the Hawks over?

No risk of that. Have you not watched Panarin? He's like a Kane or Gaudreau in terms of talent.

What the eff are the Hawks doing? They've made their team worse and didn't shed any real money in the process.

hmmm, i thought Panarin was one of the league's great young stars. basically a point/game player in his first 2 years in the league.

is the assumption these are just relfective of the star power he plays with in Chicago? Am surprised folks are saying Saad is the better player.

Disclaimer: Have watched little r, other than nightly highlights, to have any kind of intelligent opinion on either player.

Is Panarin a flight risk back to Russia? The guy came over to play with Chicago, signed with them, gets traded to a team he could have signed with if he wanted to originally.. but didn't.

I wonder if part of this is trying to kickstart Jonathan Toews, since Saad and Toews had a lot of chemistry.

I think the kickstart of Toews is the biggest reason for this trade, for some reason he just wasn't great last year and when your paying a guy that much money, if he says he misses his mommy you fly her in, if he misses a linemate you get him back.

I like Panarin, but he didn't have a great playoff. Saad might not have the flash or fill the net but he's solid all around and knows where his zone is.

Might not fill the net? What? His goal totals the last 4 years are 28, 29, 22, 29. He fills the net and is only 24. Also has good size and blazing speed.

Both players in this deal are top notch young, skilled players

Yes.

But the Hawks just traded a 25-year-old +70-point forward for him.

I think today marks the first steps toward the end for Chicago as a favourite.

Oh I know, price was definitely too high, but Saad is exactly the type of player I think the Flames need. Would create all sorts of space on a Gaudreau-Monahan line.

I really think it's interesting how the Hawks seem to trade back for their old players.
