Default Jack Eichel says he won't re-sign if Bylsma is coach

Rumoured that Eichel is giving ultimatum to Tim Murray that he won't resign if Bylsma stays as coach.

clicky thing

Quote:
Inside sources have told me that Eichel has no desire to sign a contract extension this summer if Bylsma remains the coach,
Hard to take an ultimatum like that from a kid no matter how good.

But i'd be happy to flip our best forward to buffalo for him.

Re-sign, not resign.

Wow.

Obvious answer is to fire Bylsma, but then you are basically giving your core players carte blanche.

They should trade him to Calgary methinks. Cheap too. Send a clear message that dissent won't be tolerated.

I remember when the Flames had to choose between a young star player and a coach. They traded the player for peanuts and then fired the coach weeks later anyways.

Bylsma isn't a very good coach and is probably on his last legs with the Sabres anyways. Obviously you don't want this type of stuff to leak to the media and, if true, Eichel will get a talking too but there's no way they should ever choose Bylsma over Eichel.

That's quite the rumour.

If true, it's pretty clear who the choice to move out will be.

I just ordered an Eichel Flames jersey.

Yeah well, he is a pretty crappy coach that should probably be fired anyways. Sayonara!

hmm he ripped the team pretty good at the end of the season saying something along the lines of "too many of the players here are happy just to be in the NHL" when asked about the team's disappointing season.

On one end, not great for a player, a young one at that, to be firing such shots, on the other hand, he's the fruit of their bottoming out rebuild. Naturally, if there's any truth to this, they let Bylsma go. Maybe they were contemplating that regardless.

Anyways, i think i'd be ok in trading our best player, our best prospect(s) and our multiple high picks to get him.

If you look at it another way, he's just doing the Sabres a favour by forcing them to fire a crappy coach. Taking one for the team, now that's future captain material!

He looked like a bit of a prick at the year end press conference. One thing is for sure, your team is going no where when your leaders are Kane and O'Reilly.

In the unlikely event they move Eichel, their ask would be in the neighborhood of one of Monahan or Bennett, Jankowski, and the 1st. I'm not sure that gets it done, and I'm pretty sure I don't do that trade.

Bit of a tight spot. You don't want to piss of your best player. You also don't want to give a teenager the right of first refusal on who the coach is going to be, which is what I'd imagine what this would look like to the next coach coming in.

His agents say he isn't looking for a coaching change:

The solution here appears to be to wait until next season and if the Sabres go on a losing streak, fire him then. Then it wasn't because your 20 year old star told you to do it.
