If you can track it down 'Dig!' is a great, sad documentary about the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the addiction and mental instability of their front man, his love hate relationship with the Dandy Warhols. It's a brilliant look at a band staggering from crisis to crisis whilst being on the brink of making it.
You don't have to like the bands for it to be interesting, it's easily one of the best music documentaries ever made.

Speaking of 30 for 30... Once brothers is a haunting and beautiful documentary about Vlade Divac and his relationship with Drazen Petrovic. Even my father was touched.

Red Army is also great. Fetisov is at the centre of it and he is a fascinating man. There is also a moment in the film with his best friend and D partner Kasatonov that is utterly heartbreaking

The Jinx is pretty good and really well done. 6 episode mini-series. Try not to look it up before you watch it.

I also recommend Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the arcade as a great companion to King of Kong. Many of the same names and players. (And a tie in to Calgary!)

There was a thread here about this a couple years ago, I tried to watch as many as I could, I love a good doc.

I been watching more environmental ones lately for some reason.

I watched Pandora's Promise a while ago, it was an interesting point on radiation.

I've also thought Grant Baldwins documentaries are interesting, it's a good way to see what the real challenges and limits of the environmental movement are right now.

I also saw How we Changed the World, on the rise of green peace, it was kind of interesting to see how they developed as someone who is too young to remember the news from then, but I might not recommend it, there are allot of options out there with more to say.

Once Brothers is awesome, very touching.

Is Enron: The Smartest Guys In the Room on Netflix by any chance?

Do you know where to find it? I've wanted to watch it for some time I haven't found it.
Another great one is Atari: Game Over
It's about the death of Atari, the development of what is considered to be the worst game ever (ET) and rumors of an Atari burial ground in the Nevada desert. It's on NetFlix

I'll second this, I really enjoyed it. As someone without a well-formed opinion on Nuclear power this documentary was excellent and I'll expand on why:

I especially liked the fact that you start off with Environmentalists who have been campaigning for the end of the use of Coal and Fossil Fuels and a shift towards renewable sources of energy like wind/solar because the information they had suggested that renewable energy sources could generate a sufficient amount of power to the point that we didnt need Fossil Fuels anymore.

And then they show that the 'information' these guys were operating with was more 'hope' than 'fact' and in fact most of the knowledgeable people within the energy industry widely consider wind/solar a complete joke.

They dont generate even remotely the amount of energy people seem to be under the impression they provide, the fiscal cost is exceptionally high, they constantly require a fossil fuel based backup system and ultimately the environmental cost of creating solar panels and batteries is staggering.

People totally ignore the incredibly hazardous process of actually manufacturing solar panels and batteries, its remarkably toxic, they only state that because the panels and batteries are supposed to last a long time that their net environmental effect should hopefully eventually be positive relative to fossil fuels.

Enter Nuclear power. There are risks, Fukushima and Chernobyl are explored in depth but what I particularly found interesting was the explanations on how much actual waste we are talking about, its storage and the consequences thereof.

Further I liked the fact that Nuclear Energy scientists constantly reinforced the fact that what we know of as 'Nuclear Power Plants/Reactors' is merely the tip of the iceberg. There are many different kinds of reactors, and for the sake of economic efficiency and, quite stupidly, marketing, most of the ones that were built were the least safe, least expensive and least inefficient.

There are Nuclear reactor designs out there that generate 1/100th of the waste and do so efficiently enough that they can actually re-use the waste as fuel over and over until its inert.

Really cool documentary.
