Nice having another very experienced NHL manager in the FO, you just hope they are all meshing well together and keep this from becoming a 'too many cooks in the kitchen' scenario.

Time flies. Conroy has been upstairs for 7 years? When he was mentioned as possible GM in buffalo, i thought he was too green. But i guess not. Not sure how adept he is/or isn't at dealing with financial/contracts. But Conroy has to be getting to a point where he wants to spread his wings a bit. Then you have Maloney coming in and kind of taking up some of his purview.

King
Burke
Treliving
Maloney
Conroy

Great to see the Flames retaining Maloney. I always thought he was a pretty smart manager. You can assume that Maloney and Treliving have a good working relationship as well, especially with the Flames not only retaining him, but giving him a bigger title.

I am not worried about the 'too many cooks' phenomenon. Burke I thought was going to be a guy that would sort of 'shut-down' other guys in a meeting, but that doesn't appear to be the case at all. The few meetings that have been taped and thrown online all seemed to be open dialogue type of meetings (mainly the drafts), and even with Burke sitting there he didn't seem to be that presence at all.

I remember Treliving speaking to this a couple of seasons ago actually on the Fan, and his take was that the Flames really preach an open dialogue and value everyone's opinion.

I never heard of the two scouts being hired, but I imagine they got promoted (I am assuming promotions?) as they have been getting things right? Anybody have any info on them?

Yeah I think they've been in the fold for a while. Fred Parker is based in the Ottawa area I believe and is one of the main scouts for the OHL and probably crosses over to see the QMJHL as well I think would with his proximity there. Rob Sumner is based in the WHL. These have been two of the critical guys for our CHL scouting and it looks like the promotions are a recognition of their work. That's all going off the top of my head so I could be wrong on that. Not sure if any particular picks of ours can be attributed to them we'd have to ask Tod Button about that.

For anyone intersted Rob Kerr did an interesting interview with AGM Brad Pascall about the whole scouting process right before this year's draft.

Nice to see us keeping managerial and scouting talent instead of bleeding talent.

King has nothing to do with hockey.

This is Brad Treliving's team, if there was ever any concern about that.

Just like any large corporations, every one is a VP, everyone is a director, everyone is a manager. So who will be actually doing any work?

Yeah the Maloney title doesn't make sense, I guess they didn't want to call him another asst GM so the made up another title name!

And knowing Burke he probably doesn't want someone between him and Brad that might take his job, speaking of Burke's job, can anyone explain what he does for his $3 million a year salary? Man, it must be nice making that kind of cake to answer the odd phone call, piss off city counsel and not even have to live in the city full time

Not true.

He wasn't sitting in on our of our scouting meetings, draft meetings, trade deadline day war rooms because he has nothing to do with hockey operations.

Treliving runs the day to day but it is Burke that put this team together for the most part.

Its kind of hard to see who has their fingerprints where on this team. Its kind of a hodge-podge of a lot people.

Not sure you conclude that about Burke. He's pretty adamant it's Treliving's show

It takes a village.

Very confident in Flames hockey ops department right now. What a nice feeling ... can't really remember a time since that's been the case in the last few decades, aside from an approximately 3 year span before D. Sutter went nuts.

In his hit today on the Fan 960 Maloney (who is at the Plymouth tourney) was asked about his impressions of Fox - he said his game reminds him of the likes of Zubov and Rafalski - obviously still early days, but an interesting observation.

Maloney gave an enthusiastic interview on 960 that I just listened to. Thinks Bennett is going to break out, Lazar is "interesting", Jankowski will be interesting to see in camp, Valimaki will play 15 years, Fox has strong instinct, Dube is the kind of player you need, Phillips is fun to watch, Gaudreau/Monahan should have better years, Smith doesn't need to be amazing just solid (used to word "simplify" maybe to adjust to the easier workload), Hamonic adds a necessary element, Conroy is really good at his job and really in touch with with the game today.

On a yucky note, he was complimentary of Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets.

And he basically admitted that Treliving is a workaholic, just lives at the office. And out works everyone else in the management group.
