Default streaming videos in safari lag except when in fullscreen mode

Mom brought over her MacBook Pro and is having a strange problem playing streaming videos in safari- when you try to watch a video (yahoo, youtube etc), the video lags, making it impossible to watch. When you switch to fullscreen though, everything is ok. Oddly enough, the video will stop lagging in regular screen if you scroll up and down the safari window.

Normally I would say just use firefox or Google Chrome, which both work fine, but being able fix stuff for mom is awesome. Not a big deal if we can't fix, but also curious to know solution.

Have reinstalled flash and safari. OS and safari are both up to date.

I have the same MBP as I bought both at same time (13-inch i7) and same versions of OS and safari and no problem on mine.

Thanks for any help.

Define lag - choppy (low framerate), or it runs out of streaming buffer and stops until the background colour in the progress bar in the video player fills in more?

sorry, should have been more specific-

the video will typically freeze on the first frame and stay there. Audio will sometimes play. The video seems to be buffering fine. The video will sometimes play, but at a very low frame rate- maybe one every 10 seconds.

I created another account on the laptop and it works fine in that account.

Have you tried using the Flash uninstaller to remove Flash and then reinstall it:

I know nothing about Macs but in full screen Flash uses less CPU resources than in normal screen. I'd guess something is stealing your resources.
