A white macbook for sale - $600 comes with:

2ghz intel core 2 duo
2gb ram (upgrade from original)
80gb hard drive (upgrade to a 320gb for $50 more)
wifi, bluetooth, 3+ hour battery life (for real, can get more than 5 without wifi on), power cable.
BRAND NEW KEYBOARD AND TRACKPAD. This was just replaced by apple under warranty (due to manufacturing defect), so the keyboard and trackpad are brand new, have no wear, nothing ever spilled on them.

Has been a trusty laptop for school for the past couple years for me. Am leaving the country and need to sell. Is in good shape, no screen scratches or dead pixels. Some slight wear on outside, nothing major. Never dropped and no broken parts. Working perfect. Will come with a brand new install of snow leopard (newest mac OS - 10.6) no matter what hard drive is chosen along with iLife 2009.
Everything flies on this laptop and I am sad to see it go!

Thoughts? Good buy? I told him I wanted the other hard drive thrown in for the $600.
The question, though, with a $600 used laptop, is how long would it take you to save up another $400 (or use a credit card) and get a brand new 13” Macbook, 10 hour battery life, big hard drive, and a warranty to boot.

$300 was reasonable, $600 for a used machine is quite a bit in my opinion, Mac or not.

Actually the 13 inch Macbook has a smaller HD then the one offered here, a 1 year warranty, and is 1049.99 plus tax. So your looking at with tax close to $1500. That is well out of my range.

$1049 + tax = $1102

You could probably swing a refurb for a bit less. Refurb Macs have a great reputation.

A 10 hour battery, 1 year warranty and a new model is worth that extra cost.

I wouldn't consider the Hard drive size as a factor at all. If hard drive space turns out to be an issue, external drives are dirt cheap and can be added afterwards with no problems.

If $1100 is too much, maybe you should consider a PC. You could get a brand new entry level Dell for $600 that will probably meet or beat that used Mac in most technical specs. Add in a little extra for a video card if thats your thing.

Ya, all my software is Apple and I am kind of a Mac fanboy. :P

Why not replace the board by trying the options I proposed from ebay?

Mainly because my PPC is obsolete and none of the new mac programs support them anymore, everything is Intel now.

It died tonight, sounds like it is running but the screen does not come on nor does it even chime. Did the troubleshooting steps at Apple and nothing works. The guy sells and fixes Macs out of his house and gave me a 30 day guarantee so it should be fixed for free. I have horrible luck with computers!

Update: So I was doing some research and found this interesting tidbit.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
Those of you with 2007-2008 Macbooks might want to read that as a heads up.

Maybe you should stop buying your Apples in the produce section of the supermarket. They aren't supposed to last for a year!
