Without the cybernetics but yeah.

As a roleplayer I find that cool, even though I expect the movie to be pretty bad. I just hope it's not bad enough to kill this style of urban fantasy immediately.

YES! The book is awesome. I recommend reading it, it's quite short.

I read ready player one and I only recognized one part in that whole trailer, might have to re read it again.

Yeah honestly I read it only a few months ago, and other than the stacks I didn't recognize a lot. I don't recall any car chases, but maybe I'm wrong.

I've never heard of ready player one but I thought that trailer was awful. Like it looks really bad. But I'll give Spielberg the benefit of the doubt for now despite how terrible it looks.

Yeah.. I prefer my movies not be elongated video game cut scenes.

Warcraft, bad.

Dunkirk, good.

Considering the whole story more or less takes place within a video game you might want to sit this one out.

My only gripes are the main character isn't fat and Rush sucks. I realize their music is a part of the story, but that's a point I'd love to see Steve take some artistic liberties.

I guess the movie is targeted toward a certain demographic.

This seems even stranger after reading that Ernest Cline actually co-wrote the screenplay.

Either way that trailer sucked. A vague image with a V.O. explaining the actual game would have got people more pumped.

I liked the trailer, but I'm probably biased because our whole household is looking forward to the movie after we all read the book.

I recognize the stacks and the disco scene. I think the trailer sets up the world nicely, and putting in recognizable characters like Iron Giant and Freddy was a good idea (though Iron Giant is definitely not an 80s robot - boo). I agree that the main character should have been fatter and look more like a nerdy outcast, though he loses weight later on. The next trailer will likely fill in details of the story premise.

Sorry, third post on this. It's worth watching the Ready Player One trailer at 0.25x speed to try and spot cool things like 80's cultural references, or hints to the movie. The motorbike (Tron light cycle?) has Atari and Sega logos on it. Several shots of the BTTF Delorean with Parzival on the license plate, and the Bigfoot monster truck.

Spoiler!

The coolest one I've found so far is a QR code on the hood of one of the IOI cars here:

It leads to the site http://opn.to/a/V6ty5 which redirects to an IOI page to recruit egg hunters. Very cool!

Pretty sure I saw Freddie in there as well, if you were alive in the 80s this movie will be great based on nostalgia alone. I'll give Spielberg the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah, this book and watching The Goldbergs has totally rekindled my 80s upbringing.

It would also be very cool/meta if there were a hidden game within the movie. I feel like Russel Crowe in A Beautiful Mind - I'm seeing patterns in the trailer where maybe there aren't any. Is that lens flare, or morse code?

Found this article which finds some more easter eggs in the trailer.
