It's official! We've re-signed Tyler Johnson to a seven-year contract worth $5 million AAV.

Tampa Bay can #### right off with Johnny B Goode, since we actually HAVE a Johnny for that song.

Will this be a good comp for the Backlund extension that Tre is working on. Not sure if it would be seven years, but a $5MM AAV seems about right.

I believe they were doing it first, though?

Great deal.
Almost point per game (0.93pts/game) in the playoffs over 43 games.

Was almost point per game over a full season 3 years ago and has had a couple incredibly unlucky injury filled seasons where he had only a 50~ point pro rated pace. Only 26 and will be 33 by the time it ends with a mere 5M caphit all the way as a RH centre.

Doesn't this only go from 1 year of RFA to another 6 years of UFA?

The seven year term is kind of scary.

Term is too long. 5x5 would have been better.

The AAV is low enough that the term is okay. No state income tax in Florida let's the Lightning get a very favorable cap number.

Term is more than fine at $5 million a season.

He's been hurt a lot in the past and has proven to be a fragile type player.

I am surprised when a player and club agree on such a long term deal unless it's a truly elite (subjective) player. Risk on both sides.

I don't see risk for a player unless the player is elite like a Crosby and under 23 because in that case, the player could demand more in the middle of years he's locked in.

In this case, it's guaranteed money for a player who likely won't get significantly better so it's an easy decision for me. You could argue the risk is the team he's signing on with might not be his best chance at a cup during his contract years, but guessing a cup winner isn't something very predictable either.

What's the risk for the player?
