Default Curtis Lazar on Sportsnet 960

Rob Kerr did a remote broadcast this afternoon from a lake near Nanton where the HEROS program hosted underprivileged kids to get out on a boat and fish. Jay Bouwmeester was there, Brian McGrattan, Mike Cvik and others.

Lazar might have had a better time than the kids. This guy gets it. While NHL contracts add in a community charity clause, I think this guy would do it anyway. That's just his nature.

I expect he'll be a solid addition to the team both on ice and off ice.

Also interesting to note he thinks he's best at centre but he's happy to play the wing if need be.

Yeah, I don't know what Ottawa was thinking. Kid had mono. Next to the Hamilton deal, the Lazar acquisition might be Treliving's greatest swindle.

Well presumably they made the decision that they wouldn't protect him in the expansion draft and therefore trading him for a 2nd rounder was preferable to losing him for nothing. Meanwhile looking back it cost them Methot too. Maybe they should've just kept Lazar and made VGK make their choice

Being well-spoken in the media isn't everything, of course. But you can't help pulling for the kid.

So in a roundabout way Dion helped the Flames land Lazar?

Lazar allegedly requested a trade after Boucher buried him...

Curtis has been a great leader and player on some very successful teams. I have a good feeling about him and what he can add to the Flames in the near future.

Even if VGK would have acquired them, they just would have traded him away for draft picks

I'm only a few minutes in, I'm already a huge Curtis Lazar cheerleader. So well-spoken, so genuine, so smart. And so likeable. He may even be a better interview than Conroy. Very happy he's a Flame.

Nope they kept most of the younger players they took. Traded mostly vets

Vegas flipped Methot for a 2020 2nd rounder. Surely they would have taken the Flames 2nd in this year's draft from Ottawa to pick someone else?

Either Ottawa didn't put a 2nd round value on Methot or Dallas expected a much better trade market for him? Maybe they should have waited until the trade deadline.

Oh ya. Lazar rules. Glad we got him - he will be a fan favourite immediately and for years!

It'll be interesting to see if his cardo and conditioning have recovered from last year.

Lazar looked good every time he was in the lineup for the Flames IMO

I thought he looked out of shape for the most part, wasn't too impressed. I'm hoping he comes to camp with a chip on his shoulder and is one of the top 5 in fitness. He's pretty much guaranteed to be on the opening day roster because they don't want to risk losing him on waivers, but he needs to fight for a spot in the line-up.

I think the Flames should've scratched Bouma and dressed Lazar after the 10 game win streak was over. Flames last few games heading into the playoffs and then in the playoffs were bad.

I remember during the playoffs one year when the Sens were running Hammond or whatever, the guy they nick named the Hamburgler. Fans would throw McDonalds Cheeseburgers on the ice at the end of a win, Lazar picked one up and started eating it while he skated to the bench, laughing to himself the whole time.

I was both disgusted and highly entertained. I remember thinking, what a good guy, this guy gets it, he's out there to have fun.
