Sharks are definitely taking a few steps back next season. Bodes well for the Flames.

When I saw the picture announcing this on Twitter, my heart skipped a beat when I saw Bollig in a Flames jersey and my brain took a second to process that it was a Sharks signing announcement.

Then, I felt better.

I was confused and thought didnt he sign with with Chicago already?
How quickly I forget the names of our bottom line players... Bollig, Bouma.... Close enough.

One of my least favourite Flames "tough guys" of all time. He managed to avoid standing up for teammates to an impressive degree.

No surprise he finished his contract in the AHL as a result.

To keep up with the AHL tough guy arms race? The guy is a penalty waiting to happen, yet rarely fights or sticks up for teammates. Seems like a nice guy, and looked promising for a second as a guy who could actually play.

Kevin Kurz @KKurzNBCS

Bollig's contract is a two-way deal. Don't have the money (yet)

I'll laugh if the Sharks are stupid enough to play him in the NHL. I mean, they just signed him (albeit it's a 2-way deal) so....you never know.

Brouwer has been worse... Bollig had about 6-7 fights per season vs Brouwer's single recorded fight last year. Troy needs to drop the gloves more. Even Iginla fought more!

Is Brouwer a "tough guy"? That label is typically reserved for those players who are pretty much useless filler on a NHL roster apart from their ability to intimidate. Brouwer had a bad year, but he is a legitimate NHL player who can actually play hockey. I don't think Brouwer is a "tough guy."

He might not be a face-puncher in the stereotypical sense like Big Ern was. But having a single fight all year still looks bad on him, when part of the reason he was brought on was to make the team a little tougher and keep others honest.

During our slump Warrener went on a slightly drunken rant on 960 about several players who weren't playing the way they were expected to, and Brouwer was one of the first mentioned (he still hadn't fought a single time yet at the time).

If worst came to worst and the Flames had to play one of them in the lineup, I'd probably take Bollig over Gazdic.
