Holy. Way too much for the Flames.

I would have been happy if the Flames got him for 2 years at $4.5M tops. Even then it'd be a struggle to fit the contract in.

So glad the Flames didn't pay that. Just too much money for what could be Marleau's last 3 years

Just like Iginla basically. Wants to go "somewhere he has a chance to win" as long as it also comes with a huge salary.

Wow. Never thought he'd leave San Jose without Big Joe. End of an era.

That contract though.

Wow, did not see that coming at all. Just assumed he'd sign with the Sharks. Not sure I like it for the Leafs.

I know. You'd think a guy who is chasing a cup would take league minimum with the Penguins or Predators.

Oh man. Not sure how the sharks could have competed with that. Fans down here are going to lose it.

Patrick Marleau's contract with the #leafs includes a full no-movement clause.

This seems foolish. The Maple Leafs presently have 12 players signed for the 2018–19 season with $32 m in cap space, and they will enter RFA contract negotiations for their three most important forwards this summer.

I like it, weakens the Sharks. Has Thornton signed or can he change his mind?

Leafs have 14 forwards and still have Hyman and Brown to re-sign. Chance for Flames to try to pry a forward like Brown out of there?

Patrick Marleau's $6.25M AAV tentatively puts the #Leafs above the current $75M ceiling by $2.415M, with a projected cap of $77,415,834.

The Leafs sure are lucky they're saving so much cap space with all their top guys still on ELCs...

A full NMC as well? Ugly contract in year 3. If not year 2.
