Will probably be somewhere around 3.5-4.5 left after RFA's.

I'm perfectly fine with Treliving sitting out today and seeing what's available around roster cutdown before the regular season starts. In fact, I'll be delighted if he does absolutely nothing today.

I hope the Leafs sign Franson to a 2 year deal and get a reliable backup.

I actually think that the Flames have to wait with signing bargain UFAs until later in the summer. I think a team can take a risk on offer sheeting first Bennett then Ferland if the Flames match something like a 4M cap hit on Bennett, they will have no money to match Ferland.

It is unlikely but a savy GM might take advantage of the Flames going all in too soon. Also, there will be some guys available towards training camp(a veteran on a PTO for example). If the Flames still need to address a need and there are no prospects/PTOs worth the spot, then use the trade route.

Hoping for a cheap Marleau, Vrbata, Williams or nothing.
If we get Doan I'll die.

since it seems unlikely that Marleau, Williams or Sharp will sign with the Flames, I actually hope they do nothing major today.

According to McKenzie these are believed to be agreed to deals (not official until noon ET):

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie

Sam Gagner, Michael Del Zotto and G Anders Nilsson to VAN.

G Steve Mason to WPG.

Dan Girardi to TB.

Trevor Daley to DET.

G Brian Elliott to PHI.

G Chad Johnson to BUF.

Patrick Sharp to CHI.

G Jonathan Bernier to COL.

Evgeny Dadonov and Micheal Haley to FLA.

G Ondrej Pavelec to NYR.

G Ryan Miller to ANA.

and Friedman with some new rumors
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Something else to keep an eye on today: Martin Hanzal and DAL

And SJ's insurance if Patrick Marleau leaves could be...Mike Cammalleri.

Any interest in Sam Gagner? Shoots right. Still just 27. Has had a nice rebirth in the last couple of years.

More:

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Martin Hanzal is expected to go to DAL.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Sounds like TOR has interest in Stanley Cup champion Ron Hainsey.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
There was talk this week NASH would pursue Karl Alzner as precursor to a trade (Duchene)...but I'm not sure where that stands right now

Driving to Montana today (and tomorrow). Wife worked all night so she will be sleeping. That means me and Sirius NHL Radio will spend some quality frenzy time together.

If they go after Alzner my guess would be Ellis or Ekholm get moved for Duchene.

IMO, that would be a bad move

What's the point of overpaying for Alzner when you already have a solid top four D with great chemistry?

Duchene isn't worth that risk

Kovalchuk update:

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Hearing that the Devils don't have anything close trade-wise on Kovalchuck. Obviously that can change today potentially (con't)...

Rangers, Blue Jackets and Leafs believed to be among the teams on Kovalchuk's wish list... not sure Toronto has any interest though..
