Yeah, I subscribe to that same line of thinking. Not saying it's necessarily the correct decision, it's just how I think it will play out. We'll know soon enough.

He is eligible for the expansion draft.

ii) Two forwards who are a) under contract in 2017-18 and b) played in 40 or more NHL games the prior season OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons.

Flames (and every other team) had to meet the above requirement. For us Stajan, Bouma and Brouwer meet those requirements, but the forwards who don't are still eligible to be taken by Vegas unless protected.

Thanks - so the games played is only a criteria for a minimum of two forwards. Seems silly, because I can't think of a team which wouldn't have to expose a couple forwards that would meet the criteria, rule or no.

That said, if Shinkaruk is eligible, he's as likely a candidate as anyone. Brouwer is the biggest "name" player and is the most proven performer. If last year might be considered an off-year, they do it.

But Stajan and Shinkaruk can play centre and that's what Vegas needs. I'd probably feel worse about losing Shinkaruk from a team perspective, but worse about Stajan because he has roots here now.

It's just a rule to ensure that Vegas has actual NHL caliber forwards and defensemen to pick from off of every teams roster.

Yeah, I get that. I just don't think that there are any teams that could protect enough players where they would be exposing only minor leaguers or very part-time NHLers. Though there are a few that only have to expose FAs.
