So essentially the arena location has been terrible for the past 15 years but nobody mentioned it during the Moyes bankruptcy hearings? Bettman you are a fool.
Was this Bettman's way of bringing up relocation without actually using the word?
Thoughts??

they should just keep building new arenas every 10 years in every corner of Arizona for the next century until they literally bankrupt the state. Hockey!

"This bill will create jobs and sustainable growth while ensuring that NHL hockey remains a strong and vibrant tourism and entertainment alternative for the 6 million residents of Arizona," Bettman wrote.
Well, he's convinced me. The Coyotes have never been anything but strong and vibrant.
Not to mention the 3,000 permanent jobs that are really going to be real. I can't believe the people of Arizona aren't tripping over themselves to support this thing that would totally not be a scam.
I find the catastrophe of NHL hockey in Arizona to be highly entertaining. Especially when it makes Bettman out to be the conceited, arrogant, stubborn, lying fool that he really is.
Keep up the good work Gary; this will be your legacy.

They are moving to a new building in Tempe or downtown Phoenix.
Wasn't the proposed arena in Tempe recently cancelled, and a downtown building relies on making a deal with the Suns who apparently want no part of sharing an arena with the Coyotes?
They will be moved to Quebec, KC, or Seattle.

I wanted them to move a couple seasons ago for the sole reason of history being made; the first player to play for the same franchise but in 3 different cities.

Interesting stat. I thought there had to be someone who played for the Scouts/Rockies/Devils but couldn't find anyone after a quick search.
There were at least a couple players from the Golden Seals/Barons/North Stars however I'm not sure that counts as Cleveland didn't move to Minnesota they merged with them.

Remember, in the 90s, when people thought it made sense to put more NHL teams in the western US?
California teams for the most part has been a huge success and more Americans are playing hockey than ever before. I know it's a Canadian past time to bash US expansion but there's been more hits than misses and you can argue the US is right up there with Canada now as a hockey super power which is something you could never say 20 years ago. No sport ever hits a home run with al their expansion teams but the NHL has done a pretty good job overall.

On the former - at the time of Balsillie and Moyes' bankruptcy scam, the team had a long term lease with the City of Glendale. Bringing up how awful the location was would have been pointless because at the time, there was no way out of the lease.
Which ties into the latter point, without a lease - I believe the deal with Glendale expires after next season - Bettman and the league no longer have a need to try and sell the location. So the goal is now to sell the region on the new arena hopes. But yes, if that fails, Bettman and the league are laying the groundwork for relocation.

I scoffed at the arena location issue way back and defended it to the death here..
Back when I lived in the West Valley for a year.. I've since lived out east since 2010 in Scottsdale, Mesa and have settled in Gilbert.
Most, 90% of ticket holders and youth hockey arenas are all east of Central... It's just not doable if you live out east to make it to more than 5-10 games per year. It's practically a day trip.
Most Yotes fans, myself included are wiped. I know the team can be a success financially on the East Side so i'm praying it gets done but i'd give it a 15% chance right now.
Just kind of numb to it overall, if I didn't have family that work for the team i'd be sad but ok just to see it end once and for all.
