Leafs - Bolts game could be interesting Thursday night
Tampa needs to win the game either in regulation or the five minute overtime period to keep the playoff hopes alive (a shootout win eliminates them due to the ROW tie-breaker). If the game goes to OT, we may see the very rare scenario where a team pulls their goalie in OT attempting to win the game.
Also, I didn't know this, but NHL rule 84.2 states that if you pull your goalie in OT and the other team scores, you forfeit the loser point.

Really? What is the point of this (pun intended)? That rule seems stupider than the loser point itself.

The only thing I can think of is they want to discourage teams from doing it on a regular basis during the season and making a farce of the game. Not that it would prove effective but you never know.

I'm pretty sure it is left over from pre-shootout days. There was talk that if teams were playing a team in another division they'd pull their goalie late in OT to go for the extra point with nothing really to lose.
I guess they just didn't bother changing the rule when they went to a shootout.
Have you forgotten the insufferable Leafs franchise? I mean we don't have to hear about it much out here thankfully but if their success means more of what I experienced at a couple flames leafs games in recent years then I can confidently say the world needs less of it.
Oilers east. Except marginally more respectable cause their rebuild only needed one first overall pick.

The leafs fans/franchise don't have the arrogance of the 80's that the Oilers carry with them plus are way more likeable outside of Kadri who admittedly has had a stellar year. Fans like bigtuna make it harder to cheer for the leafs no doubt but it's good for the league when they Leafs are in the playoffs and past that I can't bring myself to cheer for the lightning no matter how different they are from 04... there still the bolts and I still hate them greatly.
