Rare bad game from the pitching staff today. So many walks.

How to destroy a young man's confidence. Send him down when he's pitching lights out.

Almost a grand slam, now 6-3.
That should probably do it.

He knew why he was going down, I can’t blame that.
This was a poorly executed ball game. Two errors for runs, walked 2 runs in, 8 walks total. Just a bit of a mess, baseball is weird.

About as straight down the middle as you can get, and Vlad watches it go by for strike 3.
That stings.

Though Pearson should be rested and ready, but didn't look it, some of it, part of that goes to the coaches, who didn't have him warm up earlier, instead warming up quickly when Richards walked another.

This is why I'm out on Vlad. He'll wildly hack at breaking balls well outside the zone but then let the fastballs straight down the middle fly by??? Don't know if it's mental, or he just doesn't see the ball well enough anymore orr he's just guessing. Either way he'll never get back to that MVP season. Best to move him in the Off-season and let someone else think they can fix him.

Bo and Vlad, Vlad and Bo....
Especially Vlad
What can you say?
Definitely not the core pieces it looked like Jays were getting a few years ago.

Yup, regression of your players to this extent just kills you. Looked like he could be a top 5-10 player for a long, long time. I’m a little more optimistic on Bo.

I said at the start of the season that the Flames would have to play perfect games to win. Not enough pure talent to make up for mistakes. I feel the same way about these Jays. They will have to be close to perfect to win. Don't have the bats to come back from mistakes.
Interesting to hear that they are trying Horowitz in LF. They have to be seriously looking to see what he, Barger and Martinez can do. They desperately need to find a power bat. Play the crap out of Martinez at 2nd as well.
Can't believe I'm saying this after, like 40 years but I think I'm done with Buck Martinez.

Prospects graduating are important for what it does to the budget.
Example: if you replace Vladdy and IKF with Horowitz and Martinez you save $25.5 MM. If you decide to use that money to chase an upgrade on KK you can add his $10.5MM, which gets you to $36MM.
That would be a very credible bid for Juan Soto.
I'm not saying Soto would sign, that's just an example. But if you can fill a few more positions internally and not spend $7-10MM on FA signings like IKF/KK that would really help you have the budget to make a splash elsewhere.

100% and this is why the Jays inability to develop …. Basically anything for a decade is killing them.
Very expensive roster since they can’t graduate anything to keep costs down

I wonder how much of that is prospect quality and how much is attitude though. A team looking to graduate doesn't sign IKF and tries O. Martinez at 3rd. Martinez OPS is 1.073 in AAA so far this season - it isn't impossible to imagine him successfully hitting for power in MLB.
Think about guys like Davis Schneider. His win-every-game-you-play streak is over, but today's loss wasn't on him - he hit a home run and turned an amazing double play at 2B, so he did his job, not his fault the bullpen was walking in runs. Where was he on the prospect depth chart? (28th!) Having him take Merrifield's spot was a big $ savings, and one that no one would have expected until he got the chance.

It's early still, but it's starting to look like a repeat of last season where the Jays have this really strong pitching staff and strong contributing depth all over the diamond, but fail to get anything from the guy who is supposed to be the big contributing bat in the heart of the order.
To make it worse this year though, it appears that Bo has also become nearly completely useless.
It's no wonder the Jays tried to give Ohtani nearly three quarters of a billion dollars this off season.
This really good team is failing to become a really great team because it's superstar core pieces are severely lacking.
Such a waste.
