I was one of the guys who paid for tickets tonight and was not happy with the decision to scratch the players. And FYI for the last 20 years I have given my pre-season tickets to the Hull Boys Home so those kids can attend Flames games.

Preseason games? The ones you don't get the stars in more often than not? Point not made.

Ouch.

You know what's worse then that. When their cellphones ring and the call identifier reads "mom"
I can assure you that there will be no stern lectures with secret low fives under the table from mom.

Stars often play in pre-season games. Also donate several regular season games when I can't make it. Point made.

Well Monahans dad hasn't gotten as much press in town, but Gaudreaus dad has gotten enough to give me the feeling that he would have been 100% on board with this. Which is good, the flames don't need the approval of these guys families but you don't want to do something like this in front of the family if it will drive a wedge between you and the players inner circle.
Best case, lesson learned oiling avoided, and everyone moves on.
Worst case, resentment and just riding out the next 5 years until they can get the hell out of town.
Pissing of the family could make the later a little more likely

Can't imagine what Gaudreau's mom thinks of this.

While I don't agree with your position, i see the merit to it and understand that it is a reasonable position to take.
My question for you is:
Who do you blame for this?

Please tell us what charitable things you have done so we can pick them apart and tell you that your contributions aren't actually any good.
Gonna go out on a limb and say that any kid (who isn't a spoiled brat) is stoked to go to a game anytime. Even the kids in Edmonton. Give your head a shake.

Truthfully I do see merit to the decision as well. Hopefully a one time incident, the kids learn from it and it does not happen again.

If these guys can't persevere through a bit of adversity like this then it shows they won't lead us to be champions. I don't believe that will be the case, but exposing that would be a silver lining if the absolute worst case scenario comes to pass.

Coaches decide who plays in a preseason game. And often don't play vets. Or plays them in the dual game out of town. In other words, you can't count on your favourite player in those games. So the dumb Polak example isn't made out there.
Moreover, it's not a great argument anyway. I want the team to improve, as opposed to seeing a player play in one game.

Not criticizing the charitable effort. Pointing out that this didn't match the "underprivileged kid didn't get to see Gaudreau" scenario that Polak tried to make.

I daresay it may be the first time for three players in one game. But yeah, if Ovie can be benched for a pretty innocent miss, so can a sophomore, a third and a fourth year player.

I don't ever recall an NHL team benching their #1 and #2 scorer in the same game.

At the end of the day, I'm sure that this is just what it is, a stiff warning to the three players that what they did was completely unacceptable and even though they're young, age is no excuse to lose your professionalism.
I'm sure that they took the heat from the coaches, from management and from a guy like Gio. I'm sure that they've had to stand up in front of their team mates and explain what happened.
Now the organization and the players move forward and the event is forgotten as long as they don't repeat it.
I also figure that this is something that might not be the first time and they've been warned about it before.
I'm kinda shocked about Mony being in on this, he seems so fricken mature and straightlaced.
But good for Bob and the organization for doing this.
And good for the players for going out and winning the game.
