The thing is- once this went viral all the guy had to do was go to the media, apologize, say he wishes he could take it back, or give her something to compensate her for her trouble. Explain that he is working a minimum wage job (or some other sob story) and offer her a small token of his sincerity with a Tim Horton's gift card. Heck- even spin it with "Saying sorry is something very Canadian, so here is something else very Canadian to make it up to you."

Worst case is everything is quickly forgotten. Best case he gets a commercial gig for Tim Hortons.

However, if he really is a jerk, something like apologizing would never occur to him.

Part of me wonders if he's even seen it. Or knows that he's the "subject" of an "intense interwebz justice manhunt".

Just shows the extremes some people will go for that pot o' gold.

That seems like the worst case scenario to me. Everyone would likely know his name and who knows what these interweb losers with no life will do. They'll probably force him to commit suicide, if they haven't done it already.

The guy is a dick, he doesn't owe anybody an apology. Not the way 99.9% of the population would act but some people are looking worse than him IMO.

It's similar to narrowly avoiding a staph infection.

SERIOUSLY. I know this is OT from the leprechaun but I was wondering how the heck they could even know that Smid "narrowly avoided a staph infection" because of his teeth.

Well as someone familiar with the dark net, we have a lot of issues with TOR and ddos at our work, you would be happy to know that a lot of activist hackers are indeed going after these pedos.

Honestly, I still think he comes off as easily the worst of this tale, and he most certainly owes her an apology. That doesn't have to be done through the media directly, however. He could reach out to her privately, and ask that she then pass along his regret. That keeps his name out of the media, at least.

Out of curiousity, how does one "force" someone else to commit suicide?

You realize she has done more damage to him by publicly humiliating him through social media than what he allegedly did/say to her on the bus. And this is all because he refused to move his bag from a seat. It's truly mind blowing.

If thousands of people were telling you to kill yourself, and are threatening to beat you up if they spot you, how would you feel?

While I agree the public outcry is way over the top. That being said, he could have simply moved his bag.

I'd feel crappy for being such a d-bag and realize that a contrite apology is in order.

I would feel like maybe I shouldn't be such a dick from this point forward.

So what? Consequences have reactions. At least there is some recourse for someone being a dick. Public shaming, in this case, is better than someone punching him in his goatee.

It's public transit. It's not his seat. Seats are for people, not luggage. She wasn't upset about a bag merely being on a seat. You are diminishing what he was doing by stating this way.

I am still amazed at these types of posts. We really do not know what occurred, except for a very brief snippet of video that does not align with her alleged narrative to the media.

The most damaging of all is that she said he assaulted her twice, yet after 'being assaulted' a video begins that shows that she wants to sit next to him, not go somewhere safe. She in my opinion has lied to the media, what else has she lied about? On the other hand, if she did speak the truth, we have no proof, at all. He has been convicted by the majority of the posters in this thread.

This guy may have done wrong, but we really do not know much.

We all need to take a serious time out from reacting to these online frenzies and wait for some facts to come out before the witch hunt begins.

This site blows me away sometimes.

On one hand we have Vincent Li, who on a bus.... well you all know what he did. Yet because he had mental illness, there are more people forgiving of what he did, and believe he should be a free man.

On the other hand, we have a guy that is likely a total dick wad, that flipped a woman the bird on a bus, refused to give her a seat for whatever reason, and may have... but probably didn't step on her foot, and they wish the guy to have his life ruined forever.

Sometimes I wonder if some people have never heard of the term 'put in in perspective'.

How do we know this woman didn't have raging BO and he didn't want her any closer?

How do we know this guy doesn't have some sort of claustrophobic disorder and doesn't like being crowded by other people?

How do we know he didn't shart his pants, and was too embarrassed to say something?

There are so many what if's, yet everyone is taking this woman 100% at her word. Yet as the victim of an assault, she sat right in front of him and continued to beak off at him. What a traumatized victim.

True that ^ you can't say for sure.

Personally, from watching the video, they both came off as dicks. With the leprachaun being slightly more dickish. But the girl didn't seem by any stretch totally innocent. If he had actually stomped bruisingly hard on her foot, then you think she wouldn't be right back in his face again, which she was in the video. The way she acted entitled to the seat came of as pretty ####y. In the end it's very likely that neither were in the right with the way they acted.
