Makes sense, low income people can't afford to donate to the UCP, and that's how the UCP operates

Absolute scumbags

How much do other provinces fund low income transit passes for their respective major cities as a comparison? (BC, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec)

This is just a continuation of the province downloading costs to municipalities. I think we can expect to see a lot more of this stuff, they've been at it for awhile. This way, they can scold/remove city councils who are forced to raise taxes to cover these costs, eventually achieving their libertarian ideal as municipalities are left to deem that pretty much every public service is unaffordable.

Pretty cool future they are building for us, eh?

A good chunk of low-income transit riders will continue to vote UCP despite either now having to pay out-of-pocket or pay higher taxes for the City to fill the gap.

The UCP is downright evil at this point.

A quick google suggests that BC runs a BC bus pass program that is good for all transit systems in BC

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/g...s-pass-program

Not sure who funds this program though.

I didn't have much time to dig into details. Most major cities seem to have some sort of low income pass but it's not always clear where the funding is coming from.

They're not even hiding their disdain for losing the cities last election now. Instead of looking in the mirror, they're taking it out on some of Calgary and Edmonton's most vulnerable. This is just spite.

Worst government in Canadian history. Trudeau's government looks like all-stars compared to these fascist dunderheads.

Transit is too close to trans, therefore they are against it.

For expensive trains, against low income transit

Now that low-income or people collecting AISH can't afford to go to appointments, I imagine conservatives just hope they die off and go away. I'm sure in their eyes this just cleans transit of "undesirables"

But let's be real and call it what it is, an attack on people who didn't vote for them. This just hurts the major cities and low-earners, which is the idea

They just say TMX so they don’t have to say the word trans.

Going to paint UCP and a lot of their supporters with a broad brush here, so let me acknowledge that, but I think one of the underlying reasons for their disdain for low-income Albertans comes from a belief that if you are poor you are a) lazy b) unqualified/uneducated (nice way of saying dumb), c) not righteous, or d) all of the above.

Just my personal experience recently: I've run into more of a certain type of religious people who believe that the only way you can have this temporal success is by being super pious, and those folks who are struggling financially are, in effect, less righteous.

With the TBA idiots and their home-schooled zealot leadership, I wouldn't be surprised if that was an underlying part of their cruelty: "we aren't punishing the poor because they are poor, but because they haven't been blessed enough."
