Heat sign three players
Most likely because they're being depleted by injuries and call ups.

The Abbotsford Heat, the primary affiliate of the Calgary Flames (NHL), have today announced the signing of three players. Defenseman Russ Sinkewich has been signed to a Professional Tryout (PTO), while defenseman Josh Van Dyk and centre Justin Dowling have been signed to Amateur Tryout Contracts (ATO).
Sinkewich, 25, is from Westlake, OH and has played this season with the Alaska Aces of the ECHL. In 40 games this season, Sinkewich has scored two goals and added six assists for eight points and also has accumulated 46 penalty minutes, and a plus/minus rating of +18.
Van Dyk, 24, is from Woodstock, ON and has played the past four seasons at the University of Maine. This season, Van Dyk scored three goals and added fifteen assists for eighteen points in 36 games with 21 PIM.
Dowling, 20, is from Cochrane, AB and has played his last four seasons with the Swift Current Broncos of the WHL. This past season, Dowling scored 20 goals and 47 assists for 67 points in 63 games.

Are the flames interested in signing Dowling to an ELC? He was an overager in the WHL and he's averaged a PPG in his last two seasons. He is kinda short though (5"10)

I watched alot of Swift Current games this year due to working in the area, and can say Dowling would be a great player to take a chance on. His numbers in the second half of the season went down due to the depature of Cody Eakin and being surrounded by young players. He is a great playmaker with goood vision and quarterbacked the PP in Swift. I think he will be a great fit on a Heat team that struggles to score.

Dowling sounds a bit like Bryan Cameron. Worth a shot if the team needs bodies.

A friend of mine works with the Broncos and had nothing but good things to say about Dowling all year.

Doesn't sound like Cameron to me. Cameron got a lot of his points by being around the net, and being in position to get a good pass, or whacking in a rebound. I think he'd compliment Cameron's game though.
