He more than earned every penny, and still had tradable value at the end.

One of the easiest players to like, in a very long time

The warrior who put his body and teeth on the line to block shots. You will be missed and here's hoping you come back in the off season.

Tanev, with a torn labrum and coming back from a dislocated shoulder after Game 6 Dallas, was back in the Flames lineup about 10 days later for Game 4 vs the Oilers, played 19 minutes and 29 shifts, 3rd most in shifts and ice time for defenseman, 1 assist and a +1.

Game 5 he was a plus 2 and was within a minute of ice time of Andersson and Hanifin at 22:30. And played the most shifts on defence of all of them.

In games 4 and 5, Andersson and Hanifin were each -4. Tanev was a +2. Again, with a shoulder that could pop out at any time and a torn labrum.

His calming absence in those first three games of the series basically contributed largely to things getting out of control at the back end for the Flames and the series loss.

Thanks for everything, Chris Tanev. Won't ever cheer for another Western Conference team, but I will be cheering for you. See you July 1st.

Sad to see him go.

Makes his way onto the All-time Selfless Warrior list:
Robyn Regher
Kris Russell
Lance Bouma
Mark Giordano
Chris Tanev

Go get your Cup man!

Tanev in, Hyman doesn’t go to the net like he did constantly.

I was way wrong on this signing. I remember at the time thinking the best case scenario was Tanev played well enough to be the guy picked by Seattle and it was way too long and too much for a guy who is always hurt.

Clearly I couldn’t have been more wrong and Tanev was a beast for the Flames. Probably the best UFA signing of Treliving’s time depending on how things go with Markstrom.

If Tanev wanted to come back next year it sounds good but I suspect another team like Ottawa offers more money and term or he goes to a team like Vancouver or Toronto who seem much closer to contending

I’ll be one of the first to admit that I HATED the Tanev signing when it was first announced. Not because of the player, more because of age, contract and injury history but he sure proved me wrong. One of my favourite Flames of all time and I’d happily bring him back in the offseason. Go get a Stanley Cup, you deserve it.

I want him signed the minute free agency opens up. One of the most steady D we’ve ever had.

I know this had to happen, but it still sucks.

The guy was a great Flame, absolute Warrior and he wore his heart on his sleeve.

You will be missed in Calgary Mr. Tanev.

I guess there's some chance Chris is reading, based on a recent discussion in the speculation thread. Thanks for everything, go get that Cup with Dallas.

Maybe my favorite player the last 4 years and certainly the toughest.

Never cheats the game, does everything asked of him, and sets an example for every team mate he has.

Giant hole now on the right side D and another one coming on the other side is going to lead to some ugly results I fear.

Wish that man nothing but success and good health.

Appreciate the player, and especially his on ice demeanor. But the Flames had 1 playoff appearance in his 4 seasons. So best to get something for a player like this when you can. Wish he'd been with the team 2 years sooner, would have been much better than Homonic.

Wish him the best, he deserves to be on a better team.
