Not to mention that Microsoft is one of the most profitable companies in the world. Which really begs the question of why their stock is so high. Are most people betting that they will monopolize mobile computing with iPhone? I don't see it. The competition is way too intense to be going up against both rival handset makers and software developers.

I may not like Apple, but the only reason it may SEEM like they have a monopoly on Mp3 players is because nobody else in the world knows how to make a decent one that would compare.

I don't think that is really a market. The market would be personal computers and Apple has something like a 4% market share world wide. MP3 players might be the only thing, but now with smart phones essentially being MP3 players I don't know if you could say that anymore.

No, it's because no one else monopolized the mechanism of delivery (itunes) and prevents other digital music stores like Amazon from underselling them by bullying music publishers with their buying clout.
