If the Flames did not draft Carroll in this past draft he would probably be one of the most sought after WHL (perhaps even CHL) free agents

18gp 9g 10a 19pts +10 10pim
Klimchuk has 3g 1a in his past 3 games.

because in general the top undrafted scorers in the WHL are undersized overagers.

Carroll has both size and good offensive numbers. An easy decision for a team to offer him a contract if he was a free agent.

I was at the Hitmen game tonight. Kanzig looked great, took a lot of penalties, used his body and reach well, solid positionally. They played him in front of the net on the pp too. The guy is a beast.

I don't know whats going on with Roy, but watch out! Keegan Kanzig is in his rear view mirror with the points.

I think Roy is a very likely candidate for a prospect that the Flames let fall back to the draft.

Carroll. A goal scorer and a pest

http://www.thestarphoenix.com/Carrol...174/story.html
Quote:
Austin Carroll can score goals, but he prides himself on being a pest too.

Growing up in Arizona, the Victoria Royals left-winger has a pretty good role model in the latter regard.

“Claude Lemieux lived down there,” Carroll said. “He helped me from a young age and we still talk now. He was a big influence on my career.

“He definitely brings that side out in me for sure.”

Carroll and the Royals played host to the Saskatoon Blades on Friday, a game that finished after press deadline.

The 20-year-old entered the game tied for fifth in league scoring with 36 points, backed by 20 goals. He had 59 penalty minutes, too.

Carroll was born in Calgary, but moved to California and then to Arizona when he was six after his father wanted to tap into the real estate market there.

He went from a traditional hockey hotbed to one still in its infancy.

But as he got older, Carroll started to get to know some former NHLers living near his Scottsdale home.

“If you have the willpower and desire to play, you can definitely develop your career there,” Carroll said.

The biggest mentor was Lemieux.

A four-time Stanley Cup champion and Conn Smythe Trophy winner, Lemieux played 1,215 NHL games and notched 786 points with 1,777 penalty minutes.

Carroll also became close with Lemieux’s son, Brendan — a Buffalo Sabres prospect who plays for the Ontario league’s Barrie Colts.

Brendan’s game is similar to that of his old man’s.

“We spend a lot of time in the summers, living together,” Carroll said. “We’re like brothers. We definitely bring out the pesky sides out in each other.”

Some speculation out there that Klimchuk could get traded from the Pats before the WHL trade deadline. Won't be an easy decision, as the Pats are 2nd in their division, but the Pats GM likes to look long term.

Also Kanzig was healthy scratched last week for team discipline

It's probably best he gets a chance of scenery. It seems like he's stagnated a bit.

Hmm, Kanzig doesn't seem much like a guy that would do something against team rules, but hey, these things happen to young players. Could be a curfew issue or something (somewhat) innocent like that.

Mason MacDonald with a very good game tonight. Excellent at controlling rebounds, sucked in shots ala Kipper. Had 29 saves, the 2 goals scored were off PP's. One was a 5 on 3 where he slid across post to post and made the save but Moynihan batted in the rebound. Also made a couple of nice stops on break-aways in a game where Halifax was missing some of their top players such as Ehlers and Meier. Little shaky when controlling the puck but I left the game impressed and satisfied.

Sunday December 28th.

The CHL leagues start back up after the christmas break:

Was a bit of a pest during the game got 2 mins for roughing 2+5mins for slashing.
Carroll was named 2nd star of the game
Carroll is 7th in WHL scoring as of the end of that game
37gp 24g 21a 45pts +7 74pims
For those hoping to get Brendan Lemieux in the last draft, the Flames may have picked up the "poor man's" version.

Roy had 2a and was +2 in a 4-2 win over Moose Jaw.

Kanzig had 0pts -1 2pim (cross checking) in a 4-3 loss to Kootenay
34gp 0g 11a 11pts +16 95pim
