Listen to the New Pornographers’ New Song “This is the World of the Theater”

http://pitchfork.com/news/71870-list...f-the-theater/

Carl on Dan Bejar, aka Destroyer. “Everything we were working on for this record was 160 BPM, and he's been working on a Destroyer record that's going to be very mellow,” he said. “He was like, ‘All these songs I'm writing are quiet songs. If you know what you want to do on this record, maybe I'll sit this one out.’”

As much as I love hearing that a new Destroyer album is on the way, I'm disappointed to find out that Mr. Bejar is not involved in the new New Pornographers album. I hope his absence is not permanent.

I'm definitely looking forward to this one too, love the Flatliners!

Interesting to hear how much their sound as evolved over the years, I remember when they were a ska band.

I don't care what anyone says, Matt Skiba replacing Tom DeLonge was the best thing to happen to blink-182 in 10 years. Another new song from the upcoming deluxe version of their new album California out May 19th. Basically a new album under the guise of a "deluxe edition" as they're releasing 11 new tracks. New song Parking Lot:

Wow, that's alot of new music!

I don't listen nearly as much new music as you but one band I am digging on right now is Methyl Ethel. I also love their band name. Someone in the band must be an organic chemistry geek.

Great song and I agree about Matt Skiba. That said I was not impressed with California. Other than a couple catchy tunes it was too bland and boring for my tastes and I had trouble getting through the entire album. Too bad they saved that Parking Lot song for the deluxe edition, it would have improved the original release.

Yep good band. They are getting a lot of radio play here and that song is always stuck in my head.

I thought California was about four songs too long. I found myself either blown away or as you said, just bored. Giving the album a full listen seemed like a chore after a while.

That said, yet another new song from the deluxe edition (which is shaping up to be pretty great so far):

Agree with this. I figured it was ridiculously hard to start over with a new member like that, especially in a band like Blink 182.

Tom Delonge has both a very unique voice AND unique guitar style that both contributed heavily to the success of Blink 182 over the years. To come in and be the guy to try and replace that and also make it your own must have been incredibly intimidating for all three members of the band.

So I gave them a pass on throwing probably four songs that wouldn't have made past records as they were eager to get an album out there while fans and critics were probably a little cynical that they could swing at the same level they did with Tom. There were numerous songs that proved that not only they could, but that they had a completely new chemistry and identity as a band that will produce the results long time fans have come to love.

I would imagine the fact that songs are being added to a deluxe edition that are better than songs in the original album is a testament to how powerful and comfortable they're getting together as time passes. Makes me really excited for their next full album.

Sure beats the later years of Tom where all we had to look forward to most years from media reports was "Looks like Blink 182 is stalling on promised new material again, maybe late next year at this point".

Keep in mind, Blink 182 also scrapped a full new album with Matt Skiba before California came out as they called it "part of the process" of becoming a new band. So I'm sure with their past struggles getting stuff out because of Tom, they probably felt pressure to release an album and not set it back.

Today is an awesome day for music with one of my favourite Canadian bands, the Flatliners, and one of my favourite Aussie bands, The Smith Street Band both releasing new albums titled "Inviting Light" and "More Scared Of You Than You Are Of Me" respectively. My favourite songs from each album:

Both solid albums but I have to give the edge to the Aussies. Great music and lyrics showing maturity as a band while still sticking to their past style. The Flatliners on the other hand seems over produced and they have lost a lot of their trademark roughness in the music and Chris Cresswell's vocals.
