Default 2016 Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo

http://calgaryexpo.com/

April 28 - 4pm to 9pm
April 29 - 1pm to 9pm
April 30 - 10am to 7pm
May 1 - 10am to 5pm

Key guests include:

Famke Janssen of X-Men fame. Stan Lee. Karl Ubran of LOTR and new Star Trek. William Shatner. Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca!) and many others.

They've had a number of high profile cancellations unfortunately, which has hurt the show. Adrianne Palicki just cancelled in the last day or two. I swear she was still on the site as recently as yesterday.

Got a 4 day deluxe pass this year since it was only $30 more expensive and has some nice perks. I think Stan Lee has said this will be his final appearance so that'll be worth checking out.

The show has seemed pretty lackluster from the get go this year, but I'll be there all four days most likely. Looking forward to Bob McLeod's panels, might check out the Famke Janssen panel.

Had to refund my tickets after all the cancellations. Might see if I can get a cheap day pass but doubt I'll head down this year.

I almost wonder if going back to last year's date would be better for them, though I realize a lot of that is set by the Stampede itself...that place is booked 4-5 years in advance. I had no idea it was so busy there outside of Stampede itself. This late in the year, a lot of studios are starting to look at starting filming early, to get a jump on it. Which means they recall the media guests earlier than expected, which means cancellations.

This has been a particularly rough year for them, though. The 5-pack of TWD people all cancelling really hurt.

Good thing I'm not a huge media guest fan, and go for other reasons.

I'm looking forward to it. A lot of cool artists will be there and I love cosplay. The guests are pretty decent...I'm looking forward to some of them, but they'll probably never top the TNG reunion (2012 I think?). That was such an awesome day.

I still haven't purchased any tickets.

I've been going for years and always bought the weekend pass well in advance. I mostly go to buy merchandise and comics. I've found the Red & White show to be better for this.

But the kids love seeing the cosplay and dressing up themselves so I'll probably bring them down on the Sunday.

This is the first year I might not go unless I randomly drop by on Thursday if I can get some tickets to go shopping on the floor. For all the stuff I would buy, I could probably just use the entry cost for shipping. There's nothing compelling to see or do...and I already bought VR

They're doing them twice a year now. The last one was in March. They next one is usually in September.

I've missed this twice in a row now because I never hear about it until it is too late. I really want to go because I also like to do a lot of comic book shopping and the expo is typically filled with the same overpriced massive traveling booths year to year.

It is much, much more comic centric. There are some great booths that sell old toys and other merch but the majority of tables have boxes and boxes of comics of various ages and price points.

I am thinking maybe I should see the Shat because part of me feels like he's not long for this world.

But I don't want to deal with the lines and chaos and madness. When I saw Nimoy many years ago it was so much of a smaller affair.

I checked out the website front page. What do they mean by Oculus? Is it a demo by the actual company?

Probably not going to bother this go around with the trip to Comic-Con later this year. Looks like lots of tickets still available if I change my mind at the last minute though.

You mean the misaligned bullet point thing?

I think it's a 2013 movie that Katee Sackhoff did.

They do bring in some. Mostly the local folks though. I've seen Fiona Staples there. I think Cary Nord was there many years ago. Riley Rossmo might have been there too in the past.

A couple of the Notable Works they have listed for the media guests in their bios seem like they were put together by someone who has no knowledge of pop/geek culture.

Billie Piper is listed but no mention of Dr. Who, and Karl Urban is listed but no mention of Judge Dredd

If you're gonna criticize their knowledge of pop culture at least get the movie name right.
