I love all the headlines, even CBC. He wasn't dragged. The moron was holding on to the car. Dragged implies the driver somehow had control over what this idiot was doing.

I know this is off-topic, but instead of starting a different thread I just thought I'd piggy back on this one.
I'm going to the Flames game on Saturday, but after the game we're heading to a work party at the Marquee. I usually park north of the Dome, so I see all the cabs on the north end but are there cabs at the south end too? I'd rather not get a cab heading the wrong way and spend half the fare just getting turned around onto MacLeod Trail. I guess what I'm asking is what is the best (and cheapest) way to get a cab heading south after a Flames game.
Thanks.

I'd probably say out by Cowboys may be your best bet.

After the game, I'd walk down 12th Ave to the Esso station on southbound Macleod Trail and try to hail one around there. There's usually a pretty good stream of cabs down both Macleod and 12th heading towards the Dome to get people coming from the game, so you should be able to grab one there.
It's about a 10 minute walk from the Dome, but you won't have to pay to circle the block to get onto southbound Macleod.

Wow. Toronto cab drivers are going to lose a lot with this protest. Seems like a lot of people are done with their BS and are going to Uber it from now it. They just don't get how to attract customers because they have had a monopoly for so long they don't have to put in the effort. And really? Uber is like ISIS? Give me a break. If Uber is ISIS than Cab drivers are Hitler.

That guy is bat#### crazy. I haven't taken a taxi in years - I think the last time was in Banff about 4 years ago. Never in Calgary. But Uber looks much more appealing, given this nonsense. And, a pile of Torontonians seem to feel the same, after watching the news. People downloading the app in droves, vowing never to use the city taxis again, etc.
I love how when I try to use the crosswalk at an intersection I get cut off by cabs. They always wave as a sort of apology, yet not caring at the same time.
Before you read on, please note that out of everything in my life, I might hate cabs #1. I absolutely despise them and the current system for all the myriad reasons already posted. And yet I just can't help myself but somewhat defend them on this post in stating...
pedestrians in Calgary are the absolute worst. I'm not sure I hate them more than cabs, but it's close. So I guess what I'm saying is that if my job was to drive around all day all the time, I might do the same thing rather than watch pedestrians just slowly meander and wander around aimlessly, cluelessly, excruciatingly slowly into traffic with the expectation that the world must absolutely, unequivocally come to a complete stop ONLY BECAUSE, you are a pedestrian crossing the street.
I don't understand pedestrians in Calgary. There'll be a lineup of like 10-15 cars (which, are actually real people........driving them.......) waiting for 1 guy, who's dragging his ass. Hurry. The. ####. Up. Would you ever in your life, hold up a crowd of people as you walk past them? In a mall, if you're slow walking and holding up tons of people...most people shuffle to the side, get out of the way, have their heads on a swivel. Not pedestrians. Nope. You're in a car, so you must ####ing wait for me while I crawl my ass over there. It's almost like people have a certain speed of walk, and then they get to a crosswalk and turn on their invincible force field and proceed to slow their step, just to show that yes- in fact- they are a pedestrian and yes- you must wait. Car guy.
Anyway, back to cabs sucking. Sorry about that. Probably should be in gear grinder thread.

The other thing pedestrians do is continue to cross even when the don't walk sign goes up. You're sitting there trying to do a left turn off a one way onto 6th Ave. When you get the green light the pedestrians cross in front of you which is fine but they continue when it says don't cross. You sit there waiting for them to clear and the light turns red and bumper to bumper traffic along 6th Ave starts, making the turn impossible.
No wonder cars try to weave their way through the pedestrians and yeah Calgary pedestrians would have a short life span in a lot of cities.

Walk to the Elbow Casino there are always cabs at the south entrance (18 Ave) and it's just a quick left onto southbound Macleod.

So this guy is a nutcase, obviously, and the taxi industry basically refuses to innovate, and will likely die as a result. All well and good. Doesn't change the fact that Uber is brazenly breaking the law in every Canadian jurisdiction that they have entered. Separate processes, separate opinions.

That's the conundrum. Uber drivers can't get insurance, because they cannot get licensed in the jurisdictions in which they operate. They cannot get licensed in those jurisdictions, because they cannot get insurance. Then when they went through legal channels to get licensing rules changed, they get told "we will get back to you..... maybe never."
Now I'm not saying that Uber being allowed to operate is anywhere near as important as the following analogy, but sometimes you need to be the Rosa Parks to get change moving.

Easiest and cheapest would be to hop on the LRT and jump off at 42 street station no?
