Default Telus SCAM

just wanted to give heads up to those of you who may have been approached by door to doore Telus Sales Team.

About 2 weeks ago 2 folks from the door to door sales team from telus showed up at my door. Their pitch was that Telus was installing Fibre to houses in the neighbourhood. This was a limited promotion, they were mobilizing equipment from peace river and would be installing fibre optic cable from the alley right into the house. Installation cost to me would be 0. They had lots of information on how Fibre to my house would increase the property value, provide unbottlenecked speeds and would essentially future proof the internet infrastructure.

I have been hoping for Fibre in the neighbourhood for a while, so I signed up. When I got the installation notice, I noticed that they had only allowed for 1.5 hours to do the install. I called Telus, sat on hold for 20 minutes, then hung up and contacted them through Twitter.

Turns out they are not installing Fibre, Never were any plans, the door to door sales team was pitching a complete lie. The service was to be delivered via bonded copper, over the existing phone lines in the area, which I am guessing are in the neighbourhood of 45 years old.

I cancelled my appointment, but I expect that some unsuspecting people are switching, thinking they are getting fibre, and not knowing the difference. My gut says that once the installer gets in your house you would have a terrible time trying to back out of the contract.

Just wanted to throw this out there in case anyone was in a simmilar situation. The main door to door Telus sales guy was a fellow by the name of Abdurrab Nasir, very slick, and obvioulsy very full of

I'm in a green area and had them come by twice. The second time I spent some time considering it, and he sent me a contract. I bailed before they installed it. The salesman was just so slimy and full of lies I couldn't bring myself to giving Telus more money, not after the last time... Plus the cost was going to be about the same as Shaw. I do believe they were doing fibre though, but that could have been a lie too....

I basically assume any door to door sales pitch is a scam.

Yeah these arseholes stopped by my moms place when I was visiting, they told us that it would raise the property value with the upgrades . After that I slammed the door.

Doorbell rings.
You're not expecting anyone.
Quick look through peep hole.
Nope, no one you know.
Walk away without answering and go about your day.
Profit.

I live in a green shaded area and yes, "Telus" had teams of kids in hi-vis vests persistently ringing door bells to try and get people to sign up. They were relentless in their pitch, and I could see how someone not on guard and aware of these things could sign up. (ie my folks).

I was in the middle of dinner, I was trying to end it but this guy kept going on. Finally closed the door on him as he wasn't going to shut up and leave.

We don't bother with doorbells anymore unless we're expecting someone.

I had someone from Ledcor come to my door in Edmonton the other day. They are rolling out Telus fibre in the neighbourhood and wanted to know if they could string fibre to my garage. No contract or commitment it just meant that in the future I can sign up if I want to and they won't have to come out again to bring it from the pole.

It seemed like a good deal.

Did you check your address on the tool that shows you if you are in a fibre eligible area.

https://fibre.telus.com/

It is quite possible they were actually rolling out fibre, with the way the rollout is occurring it's likely that the social media team wouldn't have had access to see if it was a regular install or a fibre install.

Nope, but I didn't have the foresight to pull up the map when the guy came to my door

They were going to do a traditional install on copper, but the door to door sales guy sold me a fibre install,

At the end of they day these are Telus employees going door to door, signing people up under the guise of installing fibre and then pulling a bait and switch and installing traditional copper based service, likely without telling anyone about the bait and switch and banking on the fact that the average user would not know the difference.

I'm not even sure they are Telus employees. I think they might be sales contractors, most certainly working on a commission.

I think you are splitting hairs,

They had this ID badges, acted like they represented Telus, I don't really care if they are contractors or employees.

When I talked to Telus on Twitter their response was "I'm sorry for the delay in response, the agent is indeed a agent with Telus. Thank you."

I've had fiber for a year, yet this site says I don't.
