I only see one instance of Flash on when I do this on my Mac. Sad..

I thought the same but in the right corner when you click the Details link it expands the Flash section to show two different instances of Flash.

I only have the Google plugin installed, and can't seem to get a second separate one working in Chrome.

Just to clarify. It works if you disable either of the plugins, not just the Google one.

Maybe this is why Chrome eats so much memory.. Before restarting Chrome the other day I went to chrome://memory-redirect/ and Chrome was using 6GB of RAM. 6GB!

Yes I have 16GB, but that's for development tools, not for Chrome!!

I only had the plugin that comes with chrome, and the gifs were still not working correctly. I disabled the version that comes with chrome, and installed the newest version from the adobe website. Everything works perfectly now.
