I feel some sympathy for Elliott. It sucks to see any decent guy crushed like that, but I don't ever want him back again. The Flames absolutely must move on.

Ideally, the Flames acquire one of Grubauer or Darling for next season. I'd be fine with Fleury, and just okay with Bishop.
It would be nice if they play at least a combined 16 games for the Flames...

Just no compete from Elliott. Goalies that get beat badly like that usually show a little passion and smash a stick. Goalies that get pulled that early in the game show even more passion and smash a couple sticks.

Elliott? Just sat in his crease and moped. Guy doesn't even care anymore, even looked that way after the 3, 4, and 5 goals in Game 3.

Probably try to trade for MAF because he's only locked up for two more seasons. Bishop is probably the best option out there but the way things have gone for Flames goaltenders I would be weary of locking any veteran goaltender long term regardless of their pedigree. I think the team has to hope one of Parsons or Gillies ends up being the real deal.

Regardless I would like to see the team try to get a younger guy like Calvin Pickard in as the backup. He was very impressive considering the train wreck of a team he played behind. Could be the next Talbot IMO.

Yes. The follow up shots of him devastated on the bench are a clear sign of someone that doesn't care.

Elliott is not as bad as his last games here, but I really can't see the organization wanting him back. I also don't think he wants to be back, he'd be under the microscope all year.

I agree. As much as I hate the idea of Fleury in a Flames uniform, I think that he and Gillies make for a good tandem for the next two years. Gillies and Parsons have to be the future after that I would think.

Can see Elliott in Dallas reunited with Hitch. Hitch will put a system together like StL which will benefit Elliott.

At the right price I actually wouldn't mind him coming back, he's had his struggles but the cap implications of acquiring a $6M/season starter puts the team in a tough spot with tkachuk, Bennet and backlund due for raises by 2018, and a few other holes that need to be filled like the 5/6 d pairing.

Given his track record the past few seasons I'd be comfortable gambling on a very cheap 2 year deal if no better options at reasonable acquisition costs pop up.

Edit: forgot about the third rounder

I'd rather not give up a 3rd rounder to sign a backup

I think so. I genuinely feel bad for Elliott as he seems like a pretty solid guy. But it's a cruel world when you melt in critical situations like he did in the playoffs.
In a way it might work out. Flames likely can sign Bishop for 15 million or less over 3 years this summer instead of 50 over 7 years and do so for no asset cost other than money.

Haven't read the thread so forgive me if it has been suggested, but what about Elliot as the backup next season.?
Edit to add: forgot about the draft pick. Not worth it

I'd be okay with Johnson as a back up. He's pretty solid in that role, but they need to find a legitimate starting goaltender.

Unless you can lock down an absolute stud of a veteran backup goaltender, you need to give that spot to a solid young guy with potential to grow into a starter.

Next year's backup needs to be Gillies or Rittich.

Yeah not sure why people want Johnson gone. He's done well in role minus a few games but overall pretty solid. He would be a solid backup to any other goalie we bring in.

Forgot about the 3rd. I still think he gets an offer higher than I'd like the flames to pay for him from another team in the offseason.

Zero chance Elliott is back. He will be in Dallas as a 1/2 combo
