506 cpm, 101 wpm, 98.85%.

I also realized that I don't type properly. I use all 5 fingers on my left hand, but generally just use 3 on my right now... bad habits.

Does typing speed even matter in the 21st Century?

It seems like a remnant of the days when old men would dictate their correspondence to secretaries who then transcribed it on a typewriter. Or when companies had typing pools with rooms full of women re-typing the same form letter over-and-over again all day.

I can't remember the last time I retyped something that was already written. Really, I just have to be able to type as fast as I think (which isn't very fast).

Being able to type 100 WPM would make no difference in my life.

I was able to do 31 WPM on my phone. Stupid thick fingers are not so good on a touch screen.

379 which is 76 words per minute, 92.66.

I'm going to use this at the office on Monday for some friendly competition with my co-workers.

.
Actually yes, it does still matter. Probably only in certain industries or jobs though. I am a Executive Secretary/Assistant and my job interviews lately have all involved either asking or testing typing speed. Many of the CEO's I've worked for still either verbally dictate what they want written or they will write it down on paper and give it to you to type up and format and want it done within 30 minutes. The majority of my job is on the computer typing letters, reports, proposals on tight timelines so they need someone who types fast and accurate.

The last formal test I took (which was a week ago) put me at 83 wpm and 97% accuracy which was enough to consider me an "Expert" by whatever their ratings were. They said most others barely test above the 50-60 mark and the minimum they were requesting was 45 wpm. The fact I could blow them out of the water put me high up on the list for consideration to hire. So in my case, typing speed is a huge benefit.

I'm quite surprised it was so slow. I used to be faster. Meh, different tests, different results I guess. I'm still quite fast. Going to try again, I took a couple of seconds to start the test too, and when I made my first mistake I paused, wondering if I should try to correct it or move on.

Ended up at 381 (76 wpm) with 7 mistakes. I started slow, and picked up a lot more speed at the end. I'm pretty sure I'm closer to 80. At one point in my life I was at over 100, but that was a while ago heh.

I think it is an awesome skill to have. Certainly when I worked in broadcasting it was a huge help - when we needed to get a story on air within 30 seconds.
But even in my job now - I find it makes me a way more productive person.

The thing you give up though is when you can type as fast as you think - you are prone to errors and your communications lack brevity.

I can do 27 errors per minute. I'm a terrible typist. I make up for it in other areas.

454 cpm, 91 wpm, two mistakes.

I don't like that test. Capitalization and punctuation matter in typing. Also, given the brain can essentially cache upcoming words, a bunch of random words like this misses the point.

^Yup, agree. If they were sentences it would make a whole lot more sense.
