I don't think the movie or the soundtrack is all that great but geez, everytime I see scenes from the movie or hear Dyslexic Heart, memories of my undergrad days come flooding back.

For me, the Gen X movie that I can still watch over and over again and still love is "Before Sunrise". "Metropolitan" and "Kicking and Screaming" are also great. Sometimes, there are movies and albums that come at that perfect time in your life...

6-8 is an epic run. Absolutely my favorite Soundgarden track.

The rest is mediocre.

Dropkick Murphys new album is awesome! Huge fan of these guys so I probably would like it no matter what, but this record has a bit more of a rock vibe than a hardcore/punk vibe.

+1 from me on this one as well, excellent album. I agree it has more of a rock vibe. A lot of DKM albums are a mishmash of hardcore, rock ballads, and Celtic folk covers however this one has a more consistent sound through the album.

It's no "The Gangs all Here" but I'd still put it in the top half of their discography.

Thanks for this. Looking forward to this collaboration.

I also see that Spoon will be releasing a new album in March (see the next story down at Troutman's link). Yay!

Thanks for this. So happy to see Mr. Kannberg making music again. This particular track is wonderful, and very different from his previous solo work and his work as Preston School of Industry. I'm looking forward to listening to the album and this new direction.

It's also about time for Mr. Malkmus to release something. It's been three years since the Jagbags album.

Geez, gotta ask the question: notable for who? Definitely notable for me as I'm an old school indie rocker but can't imagine this list is notable for many millennials. There seems to be an inordinate amount of releases from old school acts this year:

The Flaming Lips
The Feelies
Grandaddy
The Magnetic Fields
The Shins
The Jesus and Mary Chain
The Afghan Whigs
At the Drive-In
Beck
Belle & Sebastian
Bjork
Depeche Mode
Aimee Mann
Ride
Sigur Ros
Slowdive
Spiritualized
Spoon
The Stone Roses
The Strokes
Sun Kil Moon
The Wrens

And that doesn't include solo albums/projects from Dan Auerbach, Zach de la Rocha and each of the Gallagher brothers.
