My parents had the Telus pre-optik stuff and it was a nightmare. However, after they switched to Optik, I honestly think it's better than shaw. A lot more user friendly but I haven't really had the chance to really test it out.

Hands down, yes.

The Shaw guide is terrible and the remote is mind numbingly insane.

Telus' all new guide system is outstanding and they are constantly updating their system.

I have confirmation one of the next upgrades to the system will be to pause live TV from the non-PVR boxes.

So I obviously am getting the bare bones 1 HD and 2 SD, I called to complain when I switched back in October and they gave me some free channels etc.

What I want to know is, she told me that in 3-6 months the bandwidth (or whatever it's called) will be increased and I could then watch 2 HD's at once.

Is this true or possible? I am in Strathmore, and she seemed to be getting this info from the screen she was looking at.

Yes, they can tell right from looking at your account if you qualify for more HD streams - they should be able to look into an ETA for a bandwidth increase I would think.

by the time a CSR or LNR rep will look at the account and see a eta for a bandwidth increase usually its only a month or two away tops. bandwidth and network upgrades is still job 1 at telus, expect to get better bandwith s ooner than later

My dad tried to switch from Shaw to Telus. He called, set up an appointment and everything. A couple days later he called to ask for a second HD box on top of the one he was getting, and all of a sudden they said they couldn't even install the basic package because the network was full in his area. How could they even set up a service appointment in the first place?

The lady at Telus gave him quite a bit of lip for asking her to confirm that it was in fact not possible so he was pretty turned off by the whole thing.

Any telus csr's on here that wouldn't mind me asking them some questions via the old private message, please message me.

I'm generally unhappy with my shaw service.

I'm in the same boat. Just ask on here, so that we can all benefit at the same time.

I'm very happy with Starchoice, but a good deal is always good to find.. Anyone know if they have it out in Chestermere? Their website for seeing if it's available in your area is broken and I have an irrational dislike of Telus so I want to put off calling them

What do they do in a case where the only link to a place is coaxial? Will they run a network drop?

Oh.. yes they will either use the existing coax, or run a cat5.

OK, couple questions I have:

1) can one get HBO without having to order the 4 or 6-movie pack?
2) with your current offer of a "free" Xbox and "free" PVR, do I get any extra digital terminals for a 2nd or 3rd tv?

If they can use the existing coax, do they use it as a network cable, or does the box have to go on the other end of that coax then and you can only get standard def TV there?

They use it as a network cable with the built in adaptor on the router and STB. The STB goes at the TV location.

The coax plugs into the STB exactly the same as a CAT5 would and provides full HD capability.

If you are someone who calls tech support alot I would stick with Shaw. I think on quality of service alone Telus currently slightly wins, but then again I am someone who never calls tech support.

1. No
2. Yes but at a cost... the 330 is 10 a month, and you can use the xbox as a tv box for 5 a month

also, dont use coax for your tv. try and sweet talk your installer to run ethernet. you wil thank me
