Default GAME 18: STAMPEDERS at Montreal

Game Time: Sunday, October 30th @ 11am
Percival Molson Memorial Stadium
Televised on: TSN, ESPN3

Last game of the regular season for the Calgary Stampeders(15-1-1) and it is going to be a meaningless game again. Alouettes are already eliminated from the playoff berth and Stamps already clinched first place in the West. The only meaningful about this game is Stampeders can claim the best record in the CFL history, one point better than the 1989 Edmonton Eskimos(32 points).

OFFENSE:

I really think this is the best call by Dickenson naming Drew Tate as a starting QB for tomorrow's game. Tate hasn't start a game for a very long time and he only played a few games in relief this season. Yes he might be rusty but I feel much better seeing Bo Levi Mitchell on the bench especially against the Montreal defense who happens to have one of the dirtiest player in the CFL in Kyries Hebert. As we all know Hebert is the one who injured Jon Cornish with his horse collar tackle.

RB Jerome Messam named one of the CFL top performer for the 2nd time this season. Messam rushed 10 times last week for 111 yards against Toronto Argonauts. R Davaris Daniels scored a couple of TDs last week vs Argos and he ended up with 3 catches for 94 yards. Another young receiver Kamar Jorden also had a good game with 5 catches for 53 yards while Lamar Durant caught 5 passes for 24 yards.

Calgary offensive line did not allow any QB sack last week but they gave 4 sacks from Montreal defense a couple of weeks ago. I am sure OLine group are thinking about it and will try to shut down the Als D and give Drew Tate lots of time to throw the ball.

DEFENSE:

CB Tommie Campbell and Ciante Evans shuts down the Argos WR last week. Both cornerbacks picked 1 interception each. Campbell led the team with 7 tackles followed by Evans and MLB Alex Singleton with 4 tackles each. DE Charleston Hughes was the only one who got through QB Ricky Ray.

SPECIAL TEAM:

Stamps definitely missed returner Roy Finch the last two games. His replacement Jamal did not really impressed the team. Finch will be back tomorrow but chances are he won't be playing in every return.

Kicker Rene Paredes went for a perfect 3 for 3 again last week.

************************************************** **
INS and OUTS:

IN: OL Shane Bergman, RB/Returner Roy Finch, DE Frank Beltre, DB Matt Bucknor and DT Micah Johnson are all playing tomorrow.

OUT: OL Pierre Lavertu, R/Returner Jamal Nixon, LB Maleki Harris, DB Shaquille Richardson and DT Quinn Smith won't be playing.

GO STAMPS GO!!!!

Will take in this game tomorrow.
I expect it to most likely lack entertainment value for the dollar, but always have to see Calgary teams when they come this way.

Odds this happen are likely next to none, Davaris Daniels needs 151 yards to reach 1,000 on the season and it would set a CFL record for taking the fewest games to do it (11) by a rookie.

And Nik Lewis has 965 career receptions and is just one behind Allen Pitts for #5 all-time. He is only seven catches behind Darren Flutie for #4.

Drew Tate went 4 for 5 in Stamps' first possession and moved the ball very well. Rene Paredes kicked a FG.

Cordarro Law sacked Vernon Adams Jr. Charleston Hughes came close in beating him with a sack.

Quick 2 and out by Stamps. Tate just overthrew that ball by an inch higher to Jorden; otherwise it could have been a good gain.

Sucks. Messam is being worked on his back after Montreal safety hit on his back.

Drew Tate got picked at the end zone. He was doing pretty well moving the ball too. Stamps on the red zone but no point due to INT.

Stamps D just stopped Montreal 2 and out after the INT. Als gave up safety.

Tate and Davaris Daniels are still working out some kinks. They don't seem to be on the same page so far.

Nik Lewis just ties Allan Pitts in career receptions.

Just passes Allan Pitts with another catch.

Hughes sack #16 this season.

Just missed another sack. Adams made him missed and threw the pass to Nik Lewis 3rd receptions of the game.

Drew Tate threw another INT. Arm strength was not as good before he hurt his arm a few seasons ago. That throw was a floater.

Alex Singleton seem to be always involved in plays.

Nik Lewis caught his 4th reception and just hit over 1,000 yards in reception yards.

Montreal just scored a TD. 7-5 Montreal. That Als offensive series was all because of Adams Jr elusiveness and Nik Lewis receptions. Nik caught his #6 today. One more to tie Darren Flutie for 4th place.

Tate is brutal. Completely different team when he's in there.

Default End of First Half.. Montreal 7 Calgary 5

End of the first half. Montreal is ahead by 7-5. Drew Tate started well but he was still having problem throwing the ball to both Daniels and Jorden. He seems to be clicking with Campeau and Durant though. Tate looks rusty and threw a couple of INTs already but I am sure he'll get better.
Vernon Adams of Montreal looks like he is going to be the future QB for Montreal.

Milt Stegall is adamantly disagreeing with Dickenson's decision in starting Drew Tate. He seems to care more of the record than making sure Mitchell is available for the Western Final and possibly the Grey Cup. I tend to disagree. I would rather see a healthy Mitchell in the Finals than breaking the record. It will be awesome to break the record but I am sure Tate can get us the win on Western Finals or possibly the Grey Cup if Mitchell is not healthy. Tate cannot throw long balls the way Mitchell can. One of Stamps offensive strength are their wide receivers namely Davaris Daniels and also Kamar Jorden right now.

I am hoping for Nik Lewis to pass Darren Flutie career reception and that's it shut him down.
