GAME 14: STAMPEDERS at Hamilton
Game Time: Saturday, October 1st @ 2:00pm
Tim Hortons Field
Televised: TSN, ESPN3
Calgary Stampeders (11-1-1) unbeaten in 12 games and on a 10 games winning streak is playing the Hamliton Tigercats (6-7 2nd in East) for the second time this season. On Week 10, Calgary won the game at McMahon Stadium 30-24. Stamps are 4-1-1 on the road and they are 2-0-1 versus the Eastern team this season. Hamilton, on the other hand are 3-2 at home and 2-6 versus Western team including the last FG lost to Riders last week.
Stamps almost blew the win last week against the Blue Bombers. They looked like they were cruising for the win in the first half but got cold in the 2nd half and Bombers even went ahead by 1 point with less than 20 seconds left in the game. Bo Levi Mitchell with the help of Jorden and Durant's catches that prompt a 52-yard winning field goal by K Rene 'El Matador' Paredes with no time left on the clock.
OFFENSE:
Bo Levi Mitchell and the offense started off strong in the first half but fizzled in the 3rd quarter and early in the 4th. Despite the lack of offense on the 2nd half, Mitchell ended up throwing for 361 yards and 2 TD in the game. Mitchell is one of the CFL top performer again this week, 2nd week in a row. His favorite target last week was Kamar Jorden who caught 1 TD pass and 126 yards in total yards. Marquay McDaniel was great in the first half but missed some time in the 2nd half due to minor injury. He will be in the lineup tomorrow though. McDaniel ended up catching for 87 yards. Lamar Durant was the recipient of Mitchell's other TD pass and he caught 74 yards in the game. Davaris Daniels wasn't as busy last game but he still ended up with 63 yards.
RB Jerome Messam rushed for 71 yards and scored a TD rushing left the game in the 4th quarter with minor concussion. They have been testing him all this week and passed all the test. He will be suiting up for the game against Hamilton. Offensive Line group did not surrender a sack last game but looks like they lost Dan Federkeil to injury this week. With Federkeil out in comes OL Randy Richards who actually played well in both his game this season. Derek Dennis missed some practice this week but he will be playing tomorrow.
DEFENSE:
Same as the offense, defense was playing very well in the first half. They pressured Nichols in the first half and really shut down the Winnipeg's offense. The 2nd half wasn't so good though. LB Deron Mayo lead all the defensive players with 7 tackles. DB Jamar Wall had another interception last week and had 4 tackles. Defensive line Zach Minter and Derek Wiggan sacked Nichols in the game.
DT Quinn Smith coming off from the 3 games suspension list will be back in the lineup replacing Zach Minter.
SPECIAL TEAM:
For the first time this season, Special Team outplayed both offense and defense. They were consistent all game and special team courtesy of kicker Rene Paredes won the game for the Stamps. Paredes wasn't perfect going for 5 for 6 in the game but he kicked the winning field goal with no time left from a 52-yard line. Not bad for someone who's been hurting all game. P Rob Maver did a double duty in the game. Aside from making some great punts, he also took the kickoff duties from the hurting Rene Paredes.
Returner Roy Finch been improving every game. He was pretty awesome all game vs Bombers returning a total of 297 yards (205 in punt return and 92 in kickoff return). His longest was a 54 yards punt return.
**************************************************
Hamilton must be ticked off after losing to lowly Riders last week. I expect a fired up Ticats team against the Stamps tomorrow. Stamps need to ensure Collaros gets pressure all the time. Special team who's been playing very well of late will need to contain Brandon Banks all game.
GO STAMPS GO!!!
