Ipad 3 Backup Power
I'm traveling quite a bit in December so I was wondering what's a good device to have wireless backup power for Ipad 3 for those long flights. Any devices that can charge it 2-3 times?
Thank you in advance.

The iPad 3 has a massive 11,666mAh battery... You're probably looking for something at least 30,000mAh to barely charge it twice. At that point, I think you're looking at a mini generator...
Took a quick look for my curiosity:

Assuming that there aren't power outlets, this guy wouldn't even charge the iPad fully within a day

Yeah, you're looking at something like this to meet your requirements:
http://www.hypershop.com/HyperJuice-...-p/mbp-060.htm
$169 is quite a bit, plus its an enormous amount of bulk and additional cables to haul around. And at 60 Wh, it's going to recharge an iPad 3 probably 1.5 times, not even twice.
Do you really think you're going to be on a flight that will last longer than the iPad? With radios off and the backlight down, it's going to get at least 10 hours life, and I can't imagine spending that much time on the device. Using it for even part of the flight with the screen off (listening to music, podcasts, or audiobooks), you'd have to be flying pretty far to exhaust the battery.
Hell, for $169 for that battery pack, I'd just buy an iPod Touch and offload some of the stuff you want to do on the iPad.

That's what I'm not sure about. Don't wanna take the chance especially when I'm gonna be traveling for about 32 hours.

I was looking at that as well but iSound seems to be more bang for the buck.

What are you thinking of using the iPad for mostly? Along the lines of my iPod Touch suggestion, a Kindle might be a good substitute for additional battery as well, if you are plannign on doing a lot of reading.

Monoprice has a few items like this for sale. Never used them, but you could likely get almost a full charge out of this one. $39 for 9000 mah.

I did a 20 hour travel day over the summer with my iPad and every airport and plane had power jacks for recharging my phone/iPad. I don't think you'll have to worry.
The point of traveling with an iPad is the portability of the device. It would suck to have to have to travel with more junk to make it work.

When I flew to the Philippines last winter, we had a 20 year old 747 with no power at the seats. My wife who left earlier had a newer Airbus with power; and we had a similar Airbus on the way back.
I was OK as I had an extra battery for my laptop; but I can see why the OP doesn't want to take the risk.

That's my fear since I have 2 connections in Montreal and Zurich with a 4 hour lay over at each airport.
I'm leaning more towards the iSound 16000mAh at the moment by the way.

Semi-related, this may work for you to see if there's power in-flight.
http://www.seatguru.com/
On longer flights I go with an ipod for music, ipad for video, and kindle for reading. Haven't been able to kill all 3 of those on a trip yet.

Thanks kunkstyle! That website helped a lot. Surprisingly only Air Canada has power ports while Swiss Air and Lufthansa don't during my flights. But they all have seat back TV's except when I fly from Munich to London but its only a 2 hour flight so I'll survive.
Thanks again!

If you're flying Lufthansa and bringing your own headphones, make sure you pick up an adapter so you can plug a regular one-prong headphone plug into those stupid two-prong airline outlets. Air Canada got rid of theirs a couple of years ago, but Lufthansa was still using the two-prong ones when I flew them last year.

you don't need an adapter, if you plug the headphones only halfway or so in the jack you should get sound out of both speakers. a slight bump will dislodge it of course, but that was a workaround when i found out (too late) that Cathay Pacific has those planes too

The 767s? Just a word of caution, as far as I've ever seen the right hand seat (IIRC) in the middle isle of seats doesn't have power for some reason. I was lucky enough to borrow the fellow's sitting beside me.
