Default Mac users, do you by your games for OSX or Windows?

It is so hard to find games for OSX, if I want to game on my Macbook would I be better off using Boot Camp and installing Windows 7 for gaming purposes?

You'll be able to play way more games with BootCamp.

I'm not a Mac user, but I can answer this question.

Yes.

I bought my PC laptop solely for playing PC games.

Starcraft II won't play on a G5. Intel only.

Some popular places to buy Mac games:

Only games I play also work on Mac (i'm not as hardcore as I once was...) so I run them there. The slight performance boost you get (with SC2) isn't worth the headache of rebooting into Windows.

All the games I have work on both OSX and Windows. They are all Blizzard games.

I have Civ 4 on both Mac and PC - works the same on both (PC is slightly nicer because it's a gaming machine).

My Mac is my work machine - my PC desktop is used just for gaming. Mildly ironic considering the Mac vs PC commercials...

One thing to note: the Magic Mouse is positively useless for gaming (it's amazing for productivity). When I do play a game on my Mac that needs a decent mouse I just plug my Logitech one into it.

Oh - I have friends who bought an iMac and Windows 7 thinking they could load it in using bootcamp. Apparently it doesn't work or something. Is this still true?

I don't play games on my mac, period.

Though if I did, I likely wouldn't contaminate my MBP with Windows and just run natively.

I played Portal on my mac just because it was free. Phenomenal game, but beyond that I don't like playing games on my computers (mac or pc).

I'm amazed you thought so. Do you have a PowerPC based Mac? On my intel based Mac I found it brutal to the point of nearly unplayable. Graphics glitches, slow response...

Loaded it up in XP and I was much happier.

blizzard got it right the way they let you download any version and just pay for the license. That's brilliant for people who work off two machines, that kind of DRM makes sense to me.

No. I've seen it done twice this summer, but I don't know how. I do know that there were issues with Macs (perhaps only made before a certain date), but there is pretty much a way to make it work on anything with the hardware capable of running Windows 7.

Intel - Macbook Pro, Core 2 duo 2.4 GHz with 4GB of RAM. There is a noticeable difference when the video acceleration is enabled, but it's still playable without it. I imagine it wouldn't be so great on the standard Macbook, but iMacs should be fine.

I first ran Civ 4 when it came out on a PC with 2 GB of RAM and a budget gamer card. It was horrendous till I got more ram and a better video card. I can't imagine trying to run Civ 4 on anything based on the PowerPC architecture .
