Really like want Colborne brings to the team. Size, speed, and some puck skills. Hope he takes it to the next level this season.

Glad they got it done before arbitration. Seems like a great deal. Hope he earns a $5MM+ contract for his next one.

you can add me to the 'yes' column as well, as stated over and over, good term and cap hit.

this is Joe's real NHL shot. If he can produce and continue to develop, not only do the Flames have a good asset but they have him cheap for two years...really, this is all on Joe to decide. If he can do it, he's in line for a nice deal next time and he'll still be young enough to get a decent term.

I can see Colborne being a 20/45 guy in the future on the wing. He seems to work well with Backlund and Monahan both.

Good job by the Flames. Colborne's going to be a beauty.

I for one would like to see a bit more of him at C, but it's hard to argue with his results on the wing. He could become a very versatile forward. Definitely useful on the power play with those soft hands.

Glad they settled this outside of the arbitration process too. Good for the relationship between Colborne and the franchise.

You are correct. Qualifying offers are based on the salary in the final season of the contract.

Colborne knows he fits as part of that progress the rebuilding Flames have started. The new contract only serves to re-enforce the fact.

He isn’t sure where he fits, but he couldn’t care less.

He just wants to help.

“Like I said last year, as long as I’m given a chance to play out there, I could care less if I’m playing the wing or center,” Colborne said. “I just want to get out there, get on the ice and help the team pick up where we left off.

“I’d be more than happy with playing defence if they asked. I think I’d be a pretty good defenceman, actually. I could play the blue line a little bit.

“It’s all exciting to be coming back to my hometown team. Whatever role they see me playing in, I’ll take and run
As a fan I love reading these kind of comments. Doesn't care where he plays, he just wants to go out and help win.

Like this a great deal.

Now ....give him the opportunity to shine with all this talk of meritocracy that Bob has these kids playing under.

Put him with 2 slower guys like Arnold and________?

I am willing to bet Joe pops 60. Ish points this year.

24 years old
Big
Happy to be here.
hometown boy
Put on more weight and looks to be more truculent.

Its all good.

QO is based on the actual last year of the contract. AAV is the average annual value, and thus cannot change by definition.

Colborne gets criticized for his lack of hitting but he leans on people real good. Fine player who still has a lot of promise. I like him a lot and glad he signed.

I like the term and money Colborne received. Happy to have him on board for two more years and think he will have a bigger role this year.

clearly Freeway meant salary not AAV since the AAV in year 2 would be no different than year 1.

Yes, but I'm an annoying stickler, especially today

I will totally take that bet. 60 points is huge, last year, guys around 60 included Parise, Backes, Lucic, Iginla, E. Staal, Hossa, and Pacioretty.

I think 40 points is way more reasonable for Colborne, especially considering how bad we're going to be. Having a 60 point season at 24 sets Colborne up for a 5+ million dollar contract in two years. Do we really think he's going to end up being that kind of player, or is he more a Glencross-level player where he maxes out at 3.5-4.5 million and maybe has one 60 point season in his career?
