I like them too.
One complaint - I could do without Ball and Roger Millions using the word 'activate' as often as they do. It's like they've got a new toy to play with.

Watching the Game 6 telecast before the game last night, I could have sworn it was Kelly Hrudey doing the colour, but it was none other than Jim Peplinski. Boy does Hrudey sound like him. Wonder why Pepper didn't stick with it?
Anyway, I like Hrudey and Ball too. Hrudey is so calm in his descriptions, but don't kid yourself, Hrudey is seen as a Flames homer and has been for a couple years by outsiders, even on HNiC.

I think we are lucky to have them! Especially with some of the options sportsnet could have given the Flames

Just need to get rid of Eric Francis and Doug Maclean (thankfully he wasn't on last night) and Flames broadcasts will be great. Francis, Maclean and Kypreos make the 3 stooges look smart.

Francis does suck but I am actually a fan of Maclean. He has grown on me over the years and is pretty entertaining.
I am a big fan of Ball and Hrudey as well

It doesn't help when the on-air crew insist on calling Kypreos 'Kipper'.
As Cloud Wililam put it on Star Trek, Kipper is a worship word.
Kypreos is taking the name of the Kipper in vain. Kill him with fire!

Sometimes words or phrases become in vogue and then we all get tire of them after a while. Then they disappear. I got real tired of "good stick" and "activate" is similar. I hated "slap pass" but maybe because it was always the Sedins like they invented it.

Agreed. They are a great duo. I always Kelly Hrudey when he was doing analyst work on HNIC but he's really good in game as well.

lol. My buddy was commenting on that same thing and going absolutely bananas everytime they said 'Kipper'. Needless to say, I've started trolling him and told him they mean 'KYPPER', not 'KIPPER'. He had a minor meltdown last night on me. haha

I like Hrudey. But I admit it may because he is a bit of a Flames homer. That said, he's not an over the top homer - I think it's just that he was closer and more knowledgable than the HNIC boys. I remember when the OIl signed Rolason, he played a good game and someone (Ron M?) suggested the Oilers could now compete with Calgary in goal, and Hrduey rolled his eyes at comparing Rolason to Kipper.

Rick and Kelly are outstanding. As for the word "activate", with hockey teams that is the exact term. What are they supposed to use? Lets be hockey smart on this forum.

I agree it's the term currently used. I suppose for some it's too wonder twins-esque.

'Activate' rubs me the wrong way, for two reasons:
1. Defencemen were jumping into the play (as Northendzone points out) for a hundred years before they decided to use 'activate' as the word for it. This is not a newfangled development; it does not need a newfangled name.
2. In English, 'activate' is a transitive verb. You can activate a machine, activate an escape clause, activate an enzyme, or activate charcoal, but you can't just plain old activate – you have to activate something. The word 'activate' all by itself doesn't mean anything outside of hockey jargon, so it just feels wrong to me.
