Default Flames goaltending is killing our chances at McDavid/Eichel/Hanifin: Discuss

As a result, we don't suck anywhere near as much as we ought to. Don't get me wrong: I don't love losing either. But if there was one year in the next 5 for us to stink to high heaven, this would be it. And we looked ready to do it, except for Goddamn Hiller and Ramo!

I'm kind of kidding, but my point is that our results are skewed by exceptional goaltending. After being outplayed and outshot in all but a couple of games, we're looking artificially respectable. Can these guys keep up this kind of play, or are we heading for a fall?

I'm sure we'll end up losing more games instead of scraping the ot win out later on in the season but regardless of our goaltending. We still need to compete with the losers up north & the stinkers in the east. It's starting to look like we'll end up picking in the 4/6 range right now.

No - its my fault.
Whenever I start cheering for a drift pick my team starts winning.
But there's hope for you because I'm starting to believe that maybe these Flames are for real and they may compete for the playoffs much earlier than hoped.

I don't know if they can keep up the play, but its fun to watch.

Personally when I look at those top picks, they're a bonus that are nice to have but silly to intentionally pursue.

A NHL teams first obligation is to win games and put a entertaining product on the ice.

This whole tank theory if real would be an extreme lack of integrity by a management group.

How can you force fans to pay thousands of dollars a year while you put the worst product on the ice.

Yeah, right now it is ... it will even out over the year. However, come on, we don't have a chance at those players anyway. There are going to be some historically bad teams this year and we won't be one. The best we can hope for is Hanifin.

I don't think they will be as bad as last year, and will probably finish no lower than 26th or 27th. Last year goaltending was an issue until December rolled around. This year, it won't be.

I'll take solid goaltending over wishing for something that probably won't happen.

We wouldn't be able to out-suck the champions (or losers?) of suck anyway.

Edmonton, Florida, Buffalo, Carolina, Arizona. They have it in the bag.

You could look at it that way... or... could say Joey Mac and Reto Berra cost us a playoff spot last year.

The method of sucking to get high draft picks is the no good Edmonton way of doing things. Quite frankly, I'd rather see this team get results they deserve based on their play.

If we get a high draft pick, then so be it. If we get a top 10 pick, then so be it.

I don't think anyone would disagree with you. However, the question this poses is whether or not you feel the Flames are causing significant harm to their future by current in season success. In other words, is the tradeoff so vast that this is something they will come to regret down the road?

I say no.

Everyone immediately jumps to "EDMONTON!" as a retort to these kind of threads as if it was solely the fact that Edmonton picked first overall a couple of times that causes them to be a dumpster fire. There is a whole lot more than that involved in these disaster franchises.

People who want the Flames to lose deserve to see McDavid drafted by Edmonton.
