Then there are those of us who actually know the history, and know that Nashville country music and the Hollywood cowboy schtick never had anything to do with Alberta. Leave them south of the 49th where they belong, can't you?

If Calgary is so starved for an identity that it has to cobble one together from stolen bits of schlocky American pop culture, then let it starve.

George Canyon seems like a fine singer, but he's brining the complete wrong energy to these anthems. And theyrebwayyyy too long

Too soft of a voice and too much cheesy synthesizer, big step down from Heather IMO

My thoughts exactly. He needs to belt it out more, with better accompaniment.

First time hearing George sing the anthems tonight and I was impressed. Good choice by the Flames.

I like it and I liked the synth. Not the same as Heather, but at least he doesn't try too hard like they do in many other arenas.

I think George is better than Liscano. Good improvement for the flames.

I'm not one to overly care about the anthem singer. That said I don't mind the new guy. He's way better than half the singers in the league already as some are just horrible. Heather Liscano was a great singer for the Flames but this guy has a better voice.

Heather Liscano has a friend named Oliver, that has sung the anthems at the Dome, in the past. He sung in place of Heather, when she was ill or away.

When they announced that they were looking for a new anthem singer, I thought Oliver would get it.

Perhaps after this year with George, we'll see Oliver.

Side note: my wife went to high school with Heather and Oliver. We also know George Canyon, personally.

First time hearing him do the anthems.

Too soft. Get some power into that voice!

I like Canyon so far. I've been to every game so far, and I'm a fan.

Really neat side note. My wife went to high school but not with Heather and Oliver. We don't know George Canyon personally and we've actually never heard of him.

Got to hear George sing it in person for the first time tonight (and wear my $22 jersey for the first time) and I was quite happy with it. Not blown away, but not unhappy. I'll bet he'll grow on all of you negative people

You forgot to mention about being a condescending ####### and prick. But I'm pretty sure you've demonstrated that quite well, here.

Haha! I'd relax a little, your post was textbook "cool story bro", you walked right into that one.

No, you know the origin. Like it or not, after a century, that history is our own now, and so is the identity.

Haha, you gotta chill on CP, man. Seriously, you have these little meltdowns every few months or so, then you go on twitter and say you're done with CP and brag to your followers that you're going to start trolling us and plan to get banned here in a blaze of glory.

Honestly man, it's a great message board, but take it for just that, and learn to chill when people rib you. What that guy said was just a funny little ribbing and not condescending or disrespectful at all.

You posted a story about knowing our old anthem singer and her friend and how you thought her friend might get the job, but didn't but you also know the guy who did get the job, personally.

You couldn't have lobbed one up any better for a response like that. BUt take it for what it is; A gentle ribbing.
