How is that a joke? We don't belong in there.

Well ESPN has us at 16.

And I have to believe ESPN, because they have the Oilers at 30

How do they have Boston (4-4) in front of Nashville (4-0-2) and Montreal (6-1)?

Because they are better than the standings indicate.

The "power rankings" are just some guy posting his favourite teams at the top of a list on a weekly basis.

When we started out last season undefeated after a handful of games he didn't put us in then. Don't expect the rankings to change any time soon. Don't even take them seriously. As you put it, they're a joke.

Which turned out to be a completely astute judgment, as the Flames soon faltered and were at the bottom of the standings.

I don't know why anyone gets worked up, but they're generally put together with more thought than you imply.

Does Nashville belong in the top 10? Absolutely not. But look, their strong start has landed them there. Just as our strong start (which was stronger than this season's start, even though goaltending has helped us more this time around) should've landed us on the ranking then, and perhaps even now, considering the strength of our goalie tandem and defense (top of the ranks in several categories).

Don't really care, though. I don't even see why it needs to be updated weekly. It doesn't change to account for recent events or streaks. Maybe just shuffles a place or two.

While I agree that the "power rankings" are often a joke, I'd suggest that those who simply seem to think that they should reflect the standings to a tee to just look at the standings instead.

Sorry, nits going to take a lot more than a 5-3-1 street to convince most folks that the Flames are a true threat in this league, and as it should.

Some comments regarding Flames quick start last season then subsequent fall.
Does anyone know what our win/loss record was with Gio in the lineup and then with out (due to injury). - or direct me to where I could research it on my own?

5-11-2 without Giordano. 30-29-5 with Giordano.

Or maybe they're not as good as in the past? It should be based on THIS season.

Boston is slow, has lost a lot of depth and Chara has lost a massive step.

Let's not forget, this is the best offense they've had in perhaps the history of their franchise. that was their #1 need. They have great goaltending and team defense.

I fully believe that power rankings are more important than the standings. There should be end of season banners given/hoisted for each team that finishes at the top of it's division/conference......

Sample size is too small for this season.

Schedules have to balance out before real comparisons can be made.

Haggerty (a Boston writer) has the Flames at #11.
