I think Backlund did a great job but Bergeron and Kesler are on another level when it comes to shutting down other teams top guys.

No they're not. Backlund is right there with them.
Friedman said Backlund was one of his finalists.

How did Backlund get robbed? Backlund is a solid player but Bergeron is on another level. It should be his to win. Kesler and Koivu I would imagine would come in 2nd and 3rd.

Backlund has to be the most underrated player in hockey.

Will see when the results of the vote come out at NHL awards. He and Kadri should round out top 5

Stats as of March 26
Mikko Koivu
GP/G/A/Points: 72/18/35/53
Points/60: 2.30
Defensive Zone Starts: 64.0%
Corsi Against: 50.5%
Patrice Bergeron
GP/G/A/Points: 72/17/32/49
Points/60: 2.14
Defensive Zone Starts: 44.3%
Corsi Against: 38.1%
Ryan Kesler
GP/G/A/Points: 74/20/31/51
Points/60: 1.92
Defensive Zone Starts: 65.7%
Corsi Against: 48.1%
Mikael Backlund
GP/G/A/Points: 74/21/29/50
Points/60: 2.32
Defensive Zone Starts: 64.0%
Corsi Against: 45.1%
Offensively all very comparable. Bergeron gets the most offensive zone starts, whereas the other 3 start in the defensive zone by a majority. Backlund only 2nd in CA to Bergeron, who again stars primarily in the offensive zone which plays a large part in that.

Yea the votes usually go public after the award is given out.

And the most over rated player on CP.
He's a great 2 way, but he isn't on the Kessler level never mind Bergeron.

He doesn't need a Selke before he re-signs in Calgary.

Again, yes he is. Virtually every stat you can find shows that they're very much on the same level. Backlund is an elite two way forward.

A couple of key stats you're missing...
Corsi against per 60:
Kesler: 55.82
Koivu: 54.00
Backlund: 50.77
Bergeron: 44.16
Shots against per 60:
Koivu: 28.18
Kesler: 27.68
Backlund: 26.10
Bergeron: 23.18
Two things to take away from this.
First, yes, there's a good basis for suggesting that Backlund deserved a nomination.
Second... Bergeron is a God. He should win every year forever. They should just re-name the trophy after him.

It would have been nice for Backlund to get the recognition he deserves, he had a great, consistent season of two way play.
On the bright side, this will save us some money when we re-sign him.
Oh and f##k Kesler.

Those stats are all helped by his 20% difference in zone starts compared to the other 3, no?
